DIY Christmas tree stand with water
On New Year's holidays, a live spruce must stand at least until Orthodox Christmas, and better yet, until the Old New Year (January 14). In total, spruce or pine lasts 14-20 days. To keep it fresh throughout the entire period, it is recommended to make a special stand with water.

What you need to create a stand for a Christmas tree with water with your own hands
You can buy a clamp at the store, but it will not allow you to lower the end of the barrel into the water. It’s cheaper, faster and better to make the base yourself. There are several design options:
- With a bucket. Sand is poured inside or 1.5-2 liter bottles of water are placed to fix the tree. You can use garden soil instead of sand.
- From a plastic canister 5 liters. Additionally, you will need a strong cylinder for fixation. This could be a cosmetics bottle with the top and bottom cut off.
- Spacer. Unlike store-bought devices, it must rise a few centimeters so that a container of water can be placed down. Materials: 2-4 pieces of MDF, timber or board, 8 screws.
Important: To prevent the wooden spacer from slipping, it is recommended to use a sealant or anti-slip coating. This will allow you to install the structure not only on the floor, but also on the table.
In all cases, you will need water, sugar and vinegar. Additives provide nutrition to the tree and prevent it from drying out prematurely. As for the tools, it is important to prepare a ruler and a saw.
Assembly Features
The simplest assembly algorithm is for a design using a bucket. Water is poured into the container and stones are placed at the bottom for stability. The trunk is fixed with their help or with additional pegs. If sand is the main material, everything is even simpler: no additional spacers or weights are needed. The spruce just needs to be screwed in for better fixation.
Attention: You can ensure the freshness of the tree only if you add new cold water every 2-3 days. In this case, you need to add a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of vinegar.
A wooden spacer is the most complex option, but at the same time the most aesthetic and reliable. You will need 4 pieces approximately 350 mm long and 100 mm wide. They are cut at an angle and joined together so that there is an empty space in the middle. Having fastened the parts with self-tapping screws (2 for each strip), you should cut the 1.5 liter bottle approximately in half and pour water into it. The spruce trunk must pass through the spacer and fall into the container.
If you don’t have a bucket at hand, as well as materials and tools for a wooden spacer, it will be convenient to make a stand from a plastic canister. After cutting off the upper part with scissors, you need to place it on the bottom of the lower half, removing the lid. A cylinder is inserted into the neck, which will fix the barrel. The stand is suitable for young specimens, but a pine tree with a thick trunk will no longer fit.
