DIY Christmas tree stand options
When you decide to make a stand with your own hands, you need to remember that it should not only provide stability, but also look beautiful. If the diameter of the spruce leg is small, and the tree itself is not tall, then a small stump is perfect as a stand. A stump about 30 cm high is enough. You will also need a drill, glitter for decoration, glue and a brush. It is necessary to drill a hole in the stump, equal in diameter to the spruce trunk. It must also be strictly perpendicular to the floor. After this, the stump needs to be covered with glue and sprinkled with glitter.
REFERENCE! If there is a crosspiece, but it is of an unpresentable appearance, you can give it a stylish look by using an ordinary wooden box as a decorative element. There is no need to close the box itself.It can be sanded a little and varnished. Place toys and other Christmas tree decorations inside.
If there is no crosspiece, you can make it yourself.
Wooden cross for a Christmas tree
This is the easiest and most inexpensive way to make a cross for a New Year's tree.
For it you will need:
- Several bars.
- Drill with drills of the required diameter.
- Hacksaw or plane.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Glue.
Step by step execution:
- First you need to prepare the bars. They need to be given the desired length by carefully trimming the ends. This must be done as smoothly as possible to avoid the tree swaying.
- The next step will be cutting out the grooves. This can be done using a chisel. The depth of the groove should be approximately half the thickness of the block.
- The resulting grooves must be covered with glue to securely fix the bars.
- Next, you need to assemble the cross.
- When the glue has completely set, the bars must be additionally secured with self-tapping screws. This is required to ensure the stability of the structure, since trees have considerable mass.
- The final stage is drilling a hole in the middle of the resulting cross. Its diameter should be equal to the diameter of the tree.
ATTENTION! If you don’t have bars at hand, you can replace them with boards or MDF. Since their thickness is much less than that of the bars, and it is not possible to drill a hole, you need to attach something to them to install the tree. To do this, you can take, for example, an aluminum coffee can. You also need a plate to which the jar will be attached.
In this case:
- the can needs to be welded to the plate;
- for greater stability, additional stiffeners need to be welded to it;
- the boards must be glued together;
- Next, using self-tapping screws, attach the plate with the can to a cross made of boards or MDF.
After this, the jar needs to be decorated beautifully, for example, with tinsel, or you can make decorative gifts and put them under the tree.
Christmas tree stand made of metal
If you have the necessary tools, the stand can be made of metal.
For this you will need a pipe and rods. The diameter of the pipe must match the diameter of the tree trunk. Procedure:
- The rods need to be fixed in a vice and using a hammer to give them the shape of future legs. This must be done extremely carefully to achieve maximum symmetry. Otherwise, the tree will sway after installation.
- In order for the spruce to hold better in the inside of the pipe, it is necessary to make several grooves.
- The legs are attached to the pipe using welding. If they turn out to be different lengths, the rods need to be cut using a grinder.
- All ends of the rods and pipes must be sanded with sandpaper to remove roughness.
- Next, the resulting structure is painted in the desired color.
- You need to place a jar of water under the pipe, and then install the Christmas tree.
- If necessary, the stand can be disguised with tinsel.
After making the chosen version of the cross and installing the tree, you can begin decorating the New Year tree. This is how you can make a stand for a spruce tree with little effort and a minimum of materials.
