DIY steel bath installation
In addition to cast iron and acrylic, the market offers a large number of steel bathtubs, which are distinguished by their availability and ease of installation. In today's article I will talk about how to install it yourself.
The content of the article
What will you need for installation?
You need the structure itself and legs with fasteners included in the kit. In addition, during the work we will need the following tools:
- wrench and pliers;
- sanitary sealant for filling gaps;
- mounting foam for bottom insulation;
- drain fittings (siphon and bends);
- a hacksaw for cutting wooden blocks (in case of installing a frame).
Nuances and possible errors
All stages of installation must be performed with special care. Let's look at the most common errors that may arise during work:
- Incorrect leg height setting. If you do not adjust them properly at the beginning of work, it will be very difficult to do so later. The bowl will already be fixed.
- Loose legs. The parts must be screwed all the way. Otherwise, the nuts will become loose, which will lead to the bathtub becoming loose.
- Installation of the drainage system after installing the bathtub. In this case, the process is much more difficult due to the lack of normal access to the working surface.The difficulty arises when the bathtub is low-slung.
- Incorrect level marking of sewer pipes. If the drain pipe is placed above the bottom of the bowl, then difficulties with the outflow of water are guaranteed.
Because of these “mistakes,” you will be forced to do the repairs again.
How to prepare a bathroom for installation?
Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the room itself. It is better to install the bath immediately before covering the walls with tiles. With this approach, during the cladding process, all cracks and gaps can be effectively sealed.
As for gender, it must be perfectly smooth and have a durable coating. It is better to change it before installing the bathtub. When installing, the tiles must be pressed into the floor to prevent the formation of voids. If this is not done, then under high load it will simply crack.
During a major overhaul it is necessary check the walls for unevenness. If they are found, correction with cement plaster will be required. If the walls are too crooked, it is better to level them using waterproof plasterboard sheets.
Installing a bath
It can be installed without support or on a special frame. The second option is preferable - it makes the design more reliable. Let's take a closer look at it.
On a brick
Brick is considered one of the best materials for installing a frame. Can make a masonry of three walls or limit yourself to two supports, supporting the bottom of the bath. The first method is characterized by increased reliability, but requires significant costs for bricks and cement mortar. The second option is much more economical. Brick supports can serve instead of the original metal legs.
Important! The height must be carefully adjusted.
After installing the bathtub, fill the gaps with sealant.
On wooden blocks
They can be nailed around the perimeter of the walls, and the bathtub can be installed on them. Such a device will provide strength and protect the pipes from damage. Installation of the structure consists of the following steps:
- markings on the wall;
- cutting wooden blocks;
- fastening the bars using self-tapping screws;
- applying sanitary sealant to the surface of the bars;
- installing a bathtub with pre-screwed legs;
- adjusting the legs and resealing the perimeter.
How to secure and adjust the legs
The legs are screwed to the base using bolts. The bolts must be securely tightened and adjusted so that the outlet to the drain pipe was flush with the bottom of the bowl.
Final work (insulation, adjustment, plumbing)
It is best to screw the plastic siphon and the outlet to the sewer pipe before installing the bathtub. The pre-connected outlet is simply connected to the drain pipe at the end. As I said above, you need to adjust the height of the bath so that the drain pipe is level with the bottom of the bowl.
To eliminate the noise of water flows, polyurethane foam can be applied to the bottom of the bowl. This must be done before installing the bath.
