How much does an acrylic bathtub weigh?
Acrylic bathtubs have recently appeared on the market and are gaining increasing popularity. Read on to learn about the components used in manufacturing, the weight of structures and its importance when choosing.

Composition of acrylic bathtub material
The basis of production is acrylic - a synthetic polymer that has excellent wear resistance and strength..
Various additives can be used, for example, blocking the proliferation of bacteria and harmful microorganisms, or giving the substance a certain color.
Two types of raw materials are used for the production of models:
- the standard version, ABS/PMMA, consists of liquid plastic and a hardener, is more fragile and has a short service life (up to 5 years);
- polymethyl methacrylate (cast acrylic), a more expensive raw material, its polymer base is characterized by uniformity, surface quality, durability, allows the production of a product of complex shapes, and lasts 10 years or more.
Popular varieties are Stacryl and Epoxin, which contain epoxy resin and are characterized by good strength.
What determines the mass of the bath?
This value is determined by the conditions:
- product area;
- acrylic layer thickness (from 4 to 8 mm);
- dimensions (length, height, width);
- selected shape (round, rectangular, etc.);
- availability of additional accessories (for example, vibration massage).
What is her weight?
The advantage of polymer products is their low weight compared to cast iron and steel specimens. This gives benefits during transportation, installation work and repairs. The disadvantage of light specimens is lack of stability, which will require the use of special reinforcing frames before installation.
You can find bathtubs of various shapes and sizes, but there are also standard specimens with an approved set of parameters.
We give the length and width of the models (cm), and approximate weight (kg):
- 120*70, – up to 15;
- 150*70, – up to 18;
- 160*70, – 19–20;
- 170*70, – 21–25;
- 180*70 (possibly 80), – up to 30.
The packaging weight of a rectangular bathtub will be increased by approximately 10%.
The maximum number reaches 50 kg, this is possible for complex large-sized structures. The presence of various options will make the equipment heavier by another 25–30 kg. This parameter plays a major role in small rooms, where it is easier to manage with a compact and fairly lightweight accessory.
Important! It should be noted that the weight parameter can vary, but within certain limits. For example, if the tank is manufactured according to the 15 kg standard, the indicator can be reduced or exceeded by 3-4 units, but no more. Violation warns us about thin walls and short service life. Perhaps they are trying to sell cheap plastic under the guise of expensive acrylic.
How much weight can such a bathtub support?
This question often arises in relation to polymer products that give the impression of fragility.
The model is manufactured to withstand loads significantly exceeding its own value. For example, a 20-kilogram specimen with a wall thickness of 5 mm can withstand values of up to 500 kg. This number includes:
- human body weight;
- collected liquid;
- optional equipment.
It is easy to calculate that, for example, if the owner weighs 90 kg, water 250 (identical number in liters), additions 100, a reserve of 60 kg remains. This is an average calculation, but it gives an idea that the installed plumbing fixtures will be able to function regularly and without breakdowns.
Highest quality accessories designed for 700 kg.
On a note! Models are made on the basis of several layers, when the composition includes not only the main element, but also fiberglass and polymer resins. They create fairly high structural strength.
Acrylic bathtubs have many advantages, including high-quality, impact-resistant material and comfortable weight. Even in cases of exclusive, heavier options, in this parameter they outperform their cast iron and steel counterparts.
