Dimensions of faucet for bathroom sink

Choosing a bathroom faucet may seem like an easy task at first glance. However, not everything is as simple as it seems. When you come to the store and ask the seller for advice, you will have to answer a number of his questions about the sink for which you decided to choose a “pair” in the form of a mixer.

General rules for selecting the size of a faucet for a sink

In order to install the faucet and joyfully exclaim: “As it was here!”, it is necessary to take into account all the features of the washbasin.

First of all, its depth is important. Any gander will suit a large funnel-shaped bowl; only a low one will suit a flat bowl.

Availability and number of mounting holes also matters. If there is only one, choose a single-lever or monolithic valve mixer; if there are three, choose a built-in two-valve mixer (visually they “grow” out of the side separately). If there are no holes, you will have to look for a suitable copy among the models that are attached to the wall.

Attention! In case of installation on a wall, it is necessary to provide appropriate connections for hot and cold water supply pipes.

And finally, we must not forget about the aesthetic component. A rectangular sink will suit a “friend” with a similar geometry, and an oval or round one – with smooth curves.

It's not bad if they are maintained in the same style.

Spout height and length

According to “growth” they distinguish:

  • low – from 12 to 15 cm;
  • medium - from 15 to 20 cm;
  • high – more than 25 cm.

Most often, faucets with the first and second types of spout are installed in the washbasin.

According to the distance from the base to the tip of the gander there are:

  • long - suitable for a wide sink;
  • a short nose will suit both wide and miniature models.

Form and method of installation

Most often you can see faucets of traditional shape on sale. Straight typical for a short spout in a washbasin and a long spout in a bathtub. Curved configuration is more often used in kitchen models.

Relatively recently, faucets appeared on the plumbing market, looks like a mini waterfall. Their shape is cascading: not a stream flows from a small plate, but a flat stream of water. It looks very impressive and fits perfectly into modern design solutions.

Mixers can be mounted:

  • horizontally - on the side of the sink or countertop. To do this, manufacturers drill holes of a certain diameter in porcelain and earthenware plumbing fixtures. In this case, the pipes, as a rule, are hidden in the body of the sink leg or behind another structure;
  • on a vertical surface. The water supply is carried out through communications hidden in the wall.

The characteristics of the mixer completely depend on the design of the sink. When choosing a sink, think carefully about how you will use it:

  • for washing hands, brushing teeth and washing your face, a miniature model is suitable; accordingly, the faucet will be small, with a short and low spout or a cascade type;
  • If, in addition to hygiene procedures, you are going to wash your hair, your dog’s paws, or something large, choose a bowl that is wider and deeper. The mixer, naturally, will also be taller and longer.

Correlate all sink parameters with faucet parameters. When installed, a stream or cascade of water should fall to the bottom, and not to the walls of the bowl, next to or directly into the drain hole. A rotary aerator will allow you to change the angle of the water and reduce the dependence of the faucet parameters on the shape and depth of the sink.

A good option would be simultaneous purchase of both sink and faucet, and the ideal is a set of one line from one manufacturer, where everything is already combined and selected for you.

Both products must not only harmonize with each other, but also fit into the overall interior of the bathroom.

The presence of a washbasin significantly increases the level of comfort in the bathroom and extends the life of the bathtub, relieving it of the daily additional “load”. And a suitable mixer will eliminate puddles and splashes on nearby surfaces and your clothes.
