Instructions and tips for installing a vanity sink in your bathroom

A sink with a cabinet is a convenient and functional element of the bathroom. It is great for small spaces because it saves space, because you can store necessary items under the countertop. Today we will talk about how to select and install it.

Types of sink cabinets and their features

In addition to the fact that they are an excellent place for storage, they also reliably hide communications that do not fit into the overall design from prying eyes. Plus, the countertops themselves, if you choose them correctly or design them yourself, will become an excellent decorative element.

According to their design, they are divided into rectangular and angular. The first ones are the most common and can be located in a bathroom of any size, since they have many subvarieties of various sizes.Rectangular cabinet for a sink in the interior.

The second, corner ones, are used to save space. But this is optional. By themselves, they look so original and interesting that they can be used in large bathrooms as an unusual element of the interior.Corner cabinet under the sink in the interior.

Depending on their location relative to the floor, there are wall-mounted and floor-mounted models. The first simplifies the cleaning process and creates a visual feeling of lightness, which looks good in the appropriate design. The second one is the most convenient to install and does not require special skills.

Reference. There are also all kinds of non-standard options. They will give your bathroom an individual look, but can be difficult to install, and sometimes even difficult to repair if elements need to be replaced.

Criteria for choosing a vanity unit

Please pay attention to the following aspects:

  • the cabinet should be in harmony with the overall design of the bathroom;
  • its material must be resistant to high humidity, the influence of water and temperature changes;
  • all fittings (for example, handles, hinges and legs) must be made of non-rust material: for example, plastic or stainless steel.

Reference. The best option: a ready-made set of cabinets and sinks. They will not only be compatible in design, but also easy to install, since they are made with each other’s structural qualities in mind.

In addition, think in advance what additional useful functions should your dream cabinet have? For example, this could be a laundry basket on the door. Or the ability to independently adjust the height of the shelves, if the height of the tabletop should be suitable not only for adults, but also for the smallest family members.Sink cabinet with basket.

Attention! The legs of the cabinet should be high enough for comfortable cleaning of the floor underneath.

How to install a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom

First of all, you need to decide on the place where you plan to place it. The most convenient option: near the bathtub, but more often they start from the location of the communication system.

Measurements of the space and the cabinet itself are usually made before purchase, but after it, if possible, you need to “try it on” to avoid errors in the calculations.

Important! Pay attention to shelves and drawers: they may obstruct the pipes.This should also be taken into account at the selection stage.

A rare, but still common in modern apartments option is when the sewer pipe comes out of the floor, and not from the wall. In this case, you will need to trim the bottom of the cabinet in accordance with the diameter.

Usually all the necessary fastenings and other elements are included in the kit. This is especially useful when purchasing a “sink + cabinet” set. Most often, these are several studs, a pair of washers (rubber and moon-shaped), and a gasket in the form of a circle.

So, let's move on to the installation. Connect two hoses with cold and hot water to the faucet. The most suitable material for this is metal-plastic.

Important! I do not recommend using rubber ones, as they are much less durable and often tear and leak.

Place the pins in the small holes under the faucet. Then place the gasket and place the faucet into the hole in the sink. Washers are placed on both sides: rubber on top, moon-shaped below. Now all that remains is to secure it all with nuts.

Now let's move on to the siphon. Using a long screw, screw the perforated cover to the drain hole. Place a pipe sealed with rubber under it and tighten the screw more tightly.Location of communications inside the cabinet.

Let's stop there for now, because next we have to assemble the cabinet. There are no universal recommendations here, except that you must strictly follow the attached instructions and have all the necessary fasteners available.

Attention! All measures for assembling the cabinet must be carried out before installing the sink.

So, everything is ready, it's time to return to the siphon. Screw it to the drain. And again, let's stop here, because the next step is to install the sink on the cabinet.Usually it is either glued with silicone glue or attached using corners. For reliability, both of these methods are used, but in practice, any of them is reliable, even if you do not resort to the other. The main thing is not to forget about the sealant.

Now the resulting structure remains to be attached to the wall. In the case of floor cabinets, many do without this step, but since this is a stationary piece of furniture (after all, it will be connected to a common sewer riser), it is better if it does not wobble or move.

Let's move on to connecting with communications. First, the hoses for cold and hot water are screwed with a union nut to the corresponding water pipes (do not forget about the rubber gaskets). The siphon is then connected to the sewer system. All this is carefully sealed.

Everything is ready, all that remains is to check how the sink works. Turn on the water and take a good look at the inside of the cabinet. There should be no dripping anywhere, and no condensation should appear on the pipes. If so, then you can safely start using it for its intended purpose!

I think you are convinced that installing a cabinet with a sink is not so difficult. Moreover, you can always do it yourself without turning to specialists. I hope this article helps you.
