Mount for toilet lid with microlift
More and more innovations are appearing in the modern plumbing market. One of these new products is a toilet seat with a microlift system, produced by leading companies in the USA and Europe, and also has equally high-quality budget Russian analogues. What is it, how does it work and how to install it yourself, we’ll try to figure it out in this article.

What kind of device is a microlift on the toilet?
It represents mechanism for smooth, silent raising and lowering of the seat. The standard model is operated by hand push, while more complex and expensive ones include motion sensors and can automatically raise and lower as you enter and exit the toilet. Let's look at the main positive qualities for which consumers love seats with microlifts:
- The device is absolutely silent, so you can forget about the unpleasant sound that the lid makes when lowered. This is especially true when visiting the bathroom at night.
- From hitting the toilet when lowering or hitting the cistern or wall when lifting, the lid receives microdamage, which over time leads to cracks and sometimes to complete failure. The microlift function significantly extends its service life. Also, its fasteners take much longer to wear out than a standard cover.
- The presented device will especially appeal to families with small children. If the lid falls suddenly, the child may be injured, so it is much safer to use a seat that lowers and rises smoothly.
However it also has its disadvantages. If there is a need to quickly open or close the lid, the microlift delays this action, albeit slightly. If you try to speed it up by force, there is a danger of damaging the device. At the same time, its repair will naturally cost more and take longer than a standard seat.
Regarding design, it can be very diverse, the range of shapes, materials and colors is much wider than that of classic models.
Reference! Seats with a microlift are currently included in the basic package of most modern toilets, but you can purchase them separately at any plumbing store.
The operating principle of the microlift
He is similar with the work of a traditional door closer, but in a more miniature version. Smooth movement is ensured by a special hinge mechanism located inside the microlift body. Thanks to the spring, the rod is braked during its rotation. The selection of the rod and spring is carried out in accordance with the weight of the cover. That is why all actions carried out with it go smoothly. This, as well as the inseparability of the mechanism, means that it is impossible to replace individual elements if they break.
Mounting features
Seats with a microlift have a similar design to standard models, and therefore they can be installed on any toilet, be it floor-mounted, wall-mounted, wall-hung, or corner. The main thing is that the size fits. However, there are exceptions: you won’t be able to install such devices on some toilets of older models yourself, so be sure to consult with the seller first.
Seats with microlift are divided into:
- removable;
- non-removable.
The former are attached to the toilet using special stainless steel hinges, which are not only responsible for their adjustment, but also securely fasten the mechanism. If necessary, it can be easily removed, for example, for cleaning.
To install the latter, more steps will be required, which we will discuss below.
How to install a lid on a toilet with a microlift?
- First of all, the previous fastening system is dismantled.
- After this, two rubber inserts are inserted into the cover so that it fits softly against the seat, then they are fastened together with a plastic sleeve.
- A mounting bolt is then placed into the sleeve to connect to the toilet body.
- The next step is to screw the cups onto the mounting bolt, which are designed to adjust the height and required fit of the seat. On top there is a rubber gasket, usually included in the kit.
- After this, you need to attach the assembled structure to the toilet. The mounting bolts are inserted into the corresponding holes and plastic nuts are screwed onto them from below.
Attention! You need to fasten the nuts as tightly as possible, but do this as carefully as possible so as not to damage the plastic.
The final stage is adjusting the tightness of the fit using metal bowls. All that remains is to check whether the installed mechanism works.
Thus, you will get a convenient device, thanks to which the lid will never again disturb your peace by suddenly falling with a loud knock.
