Glare on TV

glareThe quality of television images is influenced by a variety of factors. One of the most common defects that buyers contact repair shops with is the so-called glare on the screen. Depending on their size and location, the master can judge the reasons that caused them and plan further actions.

What are glares on TV, what do they look like?

They are spots of various sizes that are invisible on a light background, but stand out significantly on a dark one, causing the effect of increased brightness in a certain area.

You can detect them even at the purchase stage; to do this, upload a completely black image and carefully inspect the screen (it is advisable that the external lighting is not too bright, ideally it should be complete darkness, so you will need to create suitable conditions at home and check the TV a second time). As a rule, such a simple test is sufficient. If highlights are discovered later, you can be sure that they were not there when you tested the TV's capabilities.

REFERENCE. The larger the diagonal of the screen, the more clearly all defects are visible on it, including highlights.

These also include a uniform glow along the edges of the picture, noticeable in the dark on dark images. This is a feature of models with EdgeLED backlighting and is not considered a defect, so if this is of great importance to you, do not purchase such models.

What is the reason

what does the defect look likeSuch defects may begin during the assembly process of the device.

REFERENCE. If for one reason or another you were unable to do a test in the store, and the light was detected within two weeks after purchase, you can simply exchange it for a new one.

Also, light spots on dark parts of the image may appear after a significant amount of time. They originate in the operation of backlight LEDs (if we are talking about modern LED TVs), or in the microprocessor responsible for their operation. If one of them fails for a mechanical or non-mechanical reason, the light is distributed unevenly across the screen, which is why flare occurs. The only way to prevent it is to take good care of your equipment; it is necessary to protect it from dust, moisture, shocks and falls.

In fact, in most LED TVs, glare is not a defect, but a manufacturing feature (we will look at their differences later), which was completely eliminated when devices with OLED technology were released.

Repair

If the defect is minor, it can be corrected independently by simple reconfiguration. When watching TV in the dark, it is recommended to lower the screen brightness; this will not only help reduce the visibility of glare, but also reduce harm to the eyes. If there is an adaptive backlight item in the menu, turn it on, and then the required brightness will be set automatically, depending on the external lighting.

However, if the defect is so large and bright that it significantly distorts the perception of the full image, then the TV needs to be repaired or replaced.

IMPORTANT! A defect is considered to be that light that is visible even in bright external lighting and not only in black. If it is visible only in the dark, this is considered a feature of the model, which was discussed above.

It is not recommended to carry out repairs yourself, since the slightest mistake can lead to irreparable consequences; at best, new light may form, at worst, the TV will become completely unusable. A professional technician will be able to determine its cause by the size and location of the defect and act directly on it, without the risk of damage to other elements.

The only mechanical action that in some cases helps eliminate glare and which you can do yourself: slightly loosen the bolts on the back cover and place the TV with the matrix down.
