Color stripes on TV screen
Banding on TV screens is a common problem. The reader will learn about the possible causes of the malfunction and how to eliminate it from our article.
The content of the article
Why may color stripes appear on the TV screen?
Sources of device malfunctions can be divided into two categories. The first group includes temporary problems that can be caused by:
- voltage surges that can disrupt the functionality of the frame scan or matrix;
- violations of cable (antenna) connection density;
- There is a problem with the settings.
The second type includes malfunctions in the operation of the television receiver elements itself. This group includes damage:
- matrix and its parts;
- motherboard.
To eliminate them, repair work of varying degrees of complexity will be required.
Possible defects depending on the type of stripes
The user can determine the source of the problem based on the color and thickness of the streaks that occur.
- A thin white horizontal line is a malfunction of the frame scan. Appears due to voltage surges.
- A wide purple stripe means the controller on the matrix is broken. This means there is a defect in the product.
- Narrow black horizontal or vertical lines indicate failure of the decoder. Requires immediate repair, otherwise the problem will get worse.
- Multi-colored flickering stripes, ripples and distortions are a faulty contact of the matrix cable.
- A thin vertical line in the middle of the screen is a matrix failure. May be caused by voltage surges.
- One (or more) stripes of the same color means the matrix has failed. Requires immediate repair.
What defects can you fix yourself?
Let's consider ways to restore the functionality of the device, which the user can use without compromising its further operation.
If there is a power surge, turn off the power to the TV (pull out the plug from the socket) and then turn it on again.
Check the operation of the cable (antenna), making sure that the connection between it and the television receiver is tight. If dirt or dust gets into the connector, clean it with a dry cloth.
Failures in settings can be resolved by enabling automatic settings.
RECOMMENDATIONS. Clean the TV from dust with a vacuum cleaner and wipe the screen only with special products (available on sale). Do not use a damp cloth for this purpose. This will protect the product from moisture getting inside and, as a result, numerous problems. The device must be installed securely and firmly to protect against mechanical damage.
The user can eliminate some types of matrix cable contact faults himself.
Remove the back cover of the TV and carefully unscrew the bolts to gain access to the part.
IMPORTANT! Be careful when removing the back and working inside the case to avoid damage.
Possible causes of loop malfunctions:
- Incorrect connection of contacts.Try disconnecting them (press the latch) and connecting them again.
- Oxidation of the contact group (a greenish coating is visible on it). The contact should be carefully cleaned using a blade. Then check the voltage value with a multimeter.
Defects that can only be repaired in a workshop
The main issue with troubleshooting is cost. Expensive repairs do not guarantee that after replacing parts, your TV will work properly and correctly. Therefore, you should weigh the pros and cons.
IMPORTANT! If problems occur, do not expect them to worsen. Contact the workshop immediately.
The matrix cable may fail for reasons requiring professional intervention:
- improper operation (moisture, dust or dirt getting inside the product, mechanical damage);
- bad assembly.
REFERENCE. Professional diagnostics will be required to determine the cause of the problem.
A matrix controller failure means a defect. If the warranty period for the product has not passed, request that the TV be replaced with another model.
If the matrix cannot be repaired, for example, if the decoder fails, then the part will have to be replaced. The operation to replace it is costly and complicated. It is advisable to purchase a new spare part; it can be ordered at the service center according to the TV model and year of manufacture.
We hope our article helped you understand the reasons for the appearance of stripes and how to eliminate them.
