Is it worth buying a 4k TV?
If previously, when choosing a TV, only one criterion was taken into account - whether it was color or not, now we have to take into account much more nuances. TVs differ in diagonal, functionality and, of course, screen resolution. And if quite recently Full HD was the ultimate dream, now it won’t surprise anyone, because the new 4K technology has appeared.

What is a 4K TV?
The very first prototype of a TV with a 4K matrix resolution was presented back in 2004, and only in 2012 a single Ultra HD standard was adopted. It differs from the usual Full HD in the number of pixels, the number of which is 3840x2160. That is, its horizontal resolution is almost 4000 pixels. This is where the name 4K format comes from.
Due to the fact that this format provides a very clear image and has rich color reproduction, such TVs are very popular among buyers. In addition, the matrix is capable of producing a higher frame rate and black and white contrast. Thus, the frequency of 4K TVs is about 120 frames per second, and the number of transmitted colors is 69 billion. The image quality is very high.
REFERENCE! Many experts in this field and a number of manufacturing companies confidently claim that this technology is the future of television. Many digital equipment manufacturers already offer a fairly large selection of Ultra HD models.
Pros and cons of 4K TVs
Like any other technology, 4K has a number of advantages and disadvantages. Before deciding whether to buy such a TV to replace a Full HD device, you need to familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of the new technology.
The advantages include:
- 4K technology is actively developing and will be widespread everywhere in the near future. Thanks to the rapid pace of development of network technologies and the general increase in the speed of Internet networks, videos with 4K resolution can be watched online. So we can expect the transition of television broadcasting to a similar resolution.
- This innovation significantly improves the Full HD signal, making full-resolution video look much better.
- Modern cameras take pictures with a quality higher than Full HD, so they look much better on 4K monitors.
- The amount of 4K Blu-Ray content is growing rapidly every day.
- Thanks to the high scanning frequency, dynamic scenes retain image clarity, and the smallest image details are not lost.
- There are already quite a lot of films in 4K resolution on the Internet. Modern TVs have both the Smart TV function and the ability to read from external storage devices. Therefore, new generation TVs allow you to view the necessary content in Ultra HD resolution.
- Ultra HD monitors and TVs are ideal for gamers. Thanks to the high clarity of the picture and the rapid change of frames per second, they allow you to get maximum pleasure from the gaming process, because every year game developers offer games with more and more realistic graphics.
REFERENCE! In Russia, at the moment, one of the satellite operators is already broadcasting several channels in 4K resolution.
There are few disadvantages to high-definition TVs, but they are quite significant and at the moment outweigh all the advantages. Main disadvantages:
- The biggest disadvantage is the almost complete lack of content. Despite the stunningly beautiful and clear picture, there is practically nothing to watch on this TV. Of course, the film industry does not stand still and the number of films released in 4K format is growing every year. Manufacturing companies also offer various media players with already recorded films. For example, this one is produced by Sony. However, there are only ten films, and the price of the device is quite significant. Game designers cannot be pleased either; there is not yet a wide range of games in this resolution. The XBox One and PS4 consoles also do not have a variety of content, mainly streaming games, of which there are very few. The Internet is also not encouraging with the variety and quantity of high-resolution media material. And if in many countries, for example, the USA and Japan, television is actively developing in this direction, promising in the near future a complete transition to broadcasting in 4K resolution, then in Russia everything is not so rosy. At the moment, only 6 satellite channels are broadcast in the country.
- The second noticeable drawback is the cost. It significantly exceeds the price of full resolution TVs. Prices for flagship models can sometimes reach a million rubles. The average price is about 200,000 rubles.
- It is also necessary to take into account that the human eye at a short distance is not able to see the difference in resolution.
Is it worth buying a 4K TV?
The question is quite ambiguous. Since technology has both pros and cons. If we look ahead, at a time when there will be a lot of content and prices will not be so exorbitant, the purchase will be justified. Moreover, if you have a good level of English, you can always use streaming services like Amazon or Netflix, which have recently been trying to release films and TV series in 4K resolution.
However, if you have a good Full HD TV at home that suits you in all respects, then there is no point in changing it to 4K.
Is it possible to disable this function?! I just want to watch TV! The image is very fast for us, my eyes get tired. No pleasure (((very upset! We didn’t find anything in the settings!
While full-fledged content for 4K TVs will appear, 8K will be on the way. Then marketers will tell us that 4K already belongs to the era of dinosaurs. As they now say, Full HD is a thing of the past. It really all depends on your needs. If you are going to watch digital or cable TV, regular movies and programs from the Internet on it, then Full HD will be enough for you. If you are going to watch movies in 4K and you have super-fast Internet, then a 4K TV is the way to go. There are more online films in 4K on the Internet. But still, 95-97% of videos on the Internet are far from 4K. Buying a 4K TV just to watch regular content definitely doesn’t make much sense.
