“Vesa” size: what is it on TV
Televisions in apartments have long become commonplace. If previously they were bulky, now thin and multifunctional models are produced. Modern TVs not only stand on stands, but are also mounted on the wall. To make installation less time-consuming, manufacturers have created standards for the holes and fasteners on the back of the screen. They were founded by the VESA organization.

What is the size of the Vesa mount on TV?
What is VESA on TV? At the moment, almost all TV models support standardized holes and mounts. If the screen is not intended for standardized values, then you can buy a special adapter. The differences between the values depend on the screen diagonal and the distance between the fasteners.
There are several types of fasteners for fixing to the wall:
- Fixed brackets - these are designed for those models that will not rotate or tilt;
- Inclined brackets - unlike fixed ones, allow you to change the angle of the screen;
- Tilt-and-swivel brackets - this type allows you to both change the angle of inclination and rotate the screen to the sides.
Today, more than 150 equipment manufacturers use these exact standards for manufacturing.To choose the right mount for your TV, you need to know its size. There are several ways to do this.
How to determine it using a tape measure
What is the VESA size on TV? Using a tape measure, you need to find out the distance between the fastening points on the back of the screen. The standard value is expressed in millimeters. To find it, you need to turn the TV screen down (it is best to put it on the bed) and, using a tape measure, measure the distance between two points both vertically and horizontally. The result will be one of the VESA standards.
IMPORTANT: as an example: if the result is 300 mm vertically and 200 horizontally, then the standard will be VESA 300 x 200.
How to find out the dimensions by referring to the TV instructions
If you don’t have a tape measure at hand or you can’t see the holes on the back of the screen, you can use the instructions for the TV. If the printed version is not saved, you can download the electronic version; you just need to enter the exact model of your TV in the search.
IMPORTANT: VESA sizing information can be found in the specifications or on the TV wall mount product page.
Search for sizes on the manufacturer's website
Another option is to search for the distance on the manufacturer’s website. They resort to it if it is impossible to measure the dimensions on the back panel of the TV, and the instructions cannot be found.
IMPORTANT: On the website in the technical support section you can either download instructions for your model or select your TV from the list.
If the device is selected from the menu, then after getting to the page with the characteristics of the TV, you need to scroll down and find the VESA standard values.But this is not the best option, because such sites are most often filled with people who do not take any part in the manufacture of televisions. That is, there is a high risk that the data will be incorrect.
To be on the safe side, you can use several methods at the same time.
How to choose the right vesa mounts
Once the dimensions for fastening have become known, you can proceed to the selection of fastenings. At the moment, there are only seven types of them; depending on the characteristics, different bolts are used for installation.
- Type MIS-B – for screens with a diagonal of 100 by 200 mm, weighing up to 2 kg; fastening dimensions 50 by 20 mm, M4 bolts;
- Type MIS-C – typical for models with a diagonal of 200 by 300 mm, weighing up to 4.5 kg; fastening parameters 75 by 35 mm, M4 bolts;
- Type MIS-D 75 – used for TVs with a diagonal of 300 by 580 mm and weighing up to 8 kg; mounting dimensions 75 by 50 mm and 75 by 75 mm, M4 bolts;
- Type MIS-D 100 – found for screens with a diagonal of 300 by 580 mm and weighing up to 14 kg; the size of the fastenings is 100 by 100 mm and 100 by 50 mm; M4 type bolts;
- Type MIS-E – typical for models whose diagonal is 580 by 780 mm, weight up to 23 kg; fastenings measuring 200 by 100 mm and 200 by 50 mm, type M4 bolts;
- Type MIS-F M6 - for TVs with a diagonal of 780 by 2300 mm and weighing up to 50 kg; fastenings measuring 200 by 200 mm and larger, type M6 bolts;
- Type MIS-F M8 - found on screens whose diagonal is 780 by 2300 mm, but with a weight of 114 kg; they use the largest M8 type mounts with a size of 200 by 200 mm and larger.
IMPORTANT: To mount the TV on the wall, you can use larger bracket sizes than those indicated for the model, but not smaller ones.It is allowed to use fasteners designed for TVs with a larger diagonal, but not smaller ones. You also need to pay attention to the weight of the TV. If it is larger than what the bracket can support, the mount will break.
In addition to the above parameters, the manufacturer may also specify letters for the correct location of the fasteners. For example, for categories B-E, when considering the rear, you can find the following designations:
- C – for installation in the center;
- T – for mounting from above;
- B – for installation from below;
- L – installation is carried out on the left;
- R – the TV is mounted on the right;
- T/B – for installation from above and below (usually for heavy models);
- L/R – for mounting on the left and right.
We can summarize and say that VESA standards are supported by most modern TVs. You can easily find out the size at home using different methods. The bolts and bracket are selected according to the dimensions to mount the TV on the wall and enjoy watching your favorite TV shows and movies.
