Location of sockets in the bedroom

Moving into an apartment with standard electrical wiring often entails the purchase of many extension cords and tees. The reason is extremely simple: there is no formula for universal placement of sockets. There are always few of them. They constantly end up in the wrong place. But extension cords do not add aesthetics to the design, and there are many risks associated with their use. But how to get rid of unsightly wires can be seen using the example of a bedroom.

Location of sockets in the bedroom

The sleeping room has long ceased to be a room in which only a bed and a bedside table are placed. Even before the advent of electricity, dressing tables and a wardrobe were moved into it - after all, true ladies and gentlemen should not leave the bedroom in only pajamas. And in a modern apartment, this room can also take on the role of an office. Or a full-fledged recreation area, which is impossible to imagine without multimedia devices. And all this is illuminated by electricity or powered by it.

What to consider when choosing a location

When the issue of creating optimal electrical wiring arises during renovations in a long-lived apartment, it is a little easier to solve - the owners already know what is located and where. It's harder for new settlers. They have to decide on the bedroom furniture. But it is from this that we should start.

where to start from

In order not to suffer later with a “crookedly installed” socket, you must:

  1. Arm yourself with a tape measure, a pencil and a couple of sheets of paper.
  2. Take measurements of the furniture that will be placed in the bedroom. Find out where to install it.
  3. Learn about electrical engineering. It is important to consider the number and location of all devices that will be in the bedroom - from a table lamp to an iron attached to an ironing board built into the wardrobe.

The results of all measurements, as well as a list of furniture with electricity-consuming devices, should be written down on one sheet. On the second, it is advisable to sketch out the future layout of the bedroom. After this, you can begin to think through the electrical wiring.

The most convenient and practical position of sockets in the bedroom

First, a “permanent” connection is thought out - where and how devices that are rarely disconnected from the network will be placed: table lamps, dressing table lighting, TV, computer and similar equipment. Each of these devices has a separate outlet that can be hidden.

convenient location

Then comes planning for a “temporary” connection - mobile phones, laptop, hair dryer, iron, etc. Sockets are designed for them in places of most frequent use. These connectors should be at a level convenient for the owners.

The last stage is combining the results of the previous two. Using the bedside space as an example, it looks something like this:

  1. The bedside table on which the floor lamp stands may hide the socket intended for it.
  2. The owner likes to “sit” online without getting out from under the blanket, which means there should be a connection point for the charger at the head of the bed. You can't hide it behind furniture.
  3. Result: you need a double outlet with easy access. It is placed either above the tabletop of a bedside table standing close to the bed, or at a comfortable level in the space between the spaced furniture.

Practice tips

A socket does not always mean a 220 V power supply. If you plan to use gadgets, you can use a USB port built into the usual frame to recharge them.

adviсe

By “hidden” we mean connection points that are hidden from view. For computer equipment, these are connectors at a height of 15-35 cm from the floor. For TVs and accompanying multimedia devices - about 130 (so that the socket is hidden behind them).

For periodic use, a connection to the electrical network is provided at a height of 90-100 cm. This rule works even if the outlet is designed without connection to furniture.

And most importantly, when planning your electrical layout, you need to take into account the likelihood of all outlets being used at the same time. For this reason, you should not try to get by with a minimum number of them. Otherwise, a situation may arise when you need an extension cord or tee again.
