Items in the bedroom that interfere with healthy sleep
Healthy sleep is a full night’s rest, during which the body’s most important processes occur: restoration, rejuvenation, growth and many others. But 8 hours of sleep does not always bring the expected effect. People often wake up exhausted and unrested. And there are many reasons leading to lack of sleep.

If the bedroom is not really a bedroom
An ideal option when the apartment has a separate bedroom. If the apartment is one-room, then the situation with arranging a sleeping place is much more complicated. But even in such a limited space you can create an environment favorable for sleep.
The first thing you should pay attention to is the color scheme of the room. Choose calm, soft pastel colors. Avoid too bright decorative elements. Bright colors have an irritating effect on the body, while light colors, on the contrary, calm the body.
Do not clutter the room with unnecessary pieces of furniture and things. A too cramped, crowded room loses its comfort and does not allow you to relax. It is better to give preference to multifunctional furniture (wardrobe-bed) in order to save as much free space as possible.
Get rid of excess textiles (stuffed toys, various pillows), such items accumulate: dust, germs, mites. This can lead to allergic reactions, cough, runny nose and impair sleep quality.
Also, you should not plant a large number of flowers in a one-room apartment.Strong odors can cause allergies and headaches. If you still really want to add greenery to the room, then you should approach this issue thoughtfully. There are plants that not only do not harm your health, but also improve sleep (spathiphyllum, geranium, aloe, camellia, ficus).
To complement the interior with a clock, you need to choose silent models that do not make ticking sounds. Silence is essential for good rest.
A large room can be divided into zones:
- guest room (TV, coffee table, sofa);
- bedroom (bed, bedside table);
- work room (computer, desk).
This will give a small apartment a special coziness and comfort.
To delimit zones, designers have come up with many options:
- rack or cabinet;
- screen;
- curtain;
- decorative lattice;
- plasterboard partition;
- movable partition.
A design divided into zones is ideal if there is a small child in the house. In this case, adults can combine a guest area and a place to relax, choosing the most suitable sofa or sofa for sleeping. And the child can be separated from his sleeping place using one of the above methods.
Lighting is also selected appropriately for each zone. For the guest room, bright light is preferable. The sleeping area requires dim, diffused lighting. It is recommended to have a night light, as it is not recommended to turn on bright lights at night if necessary.
What interferes with sleep affects the quality of sleep
Some people fall asleep instantly, others have difficulty doing so. But there are negative factors that affect almost everyone equally.
What interferes with healthy sleep:
Having the TV on negatively affects sleep, as sound interrupts the deep phase and light disrupts the production of melanin (sleep hormone).And despite the fact that you do not wake up, rest is no longer complete. The same applies to various gadgets. You should not go to bed taking your mobile phone or tablet with you.
Some types of indoor plants (orchid, indoor lilies, azalea, monstera). Many people believe that plants only bring benefits, forgetting about the main thing - at night, many absorb oxygen and emit carbon dioxide almost on a par with humans. Some are completely poisonous and can seriously harm your health.
Geranium, if you are not allergic to it, is perfect for the bedroom. It has a calming effect, relieves nightmares and insomnia.
Stale clothes. Not only worn-out pajamas, but also poorly chosen pajamas disrupt sleep. Clothes that are not completely clean have already accumulated dust, bacteria, and unpleasant odors that cause discomfort. This also applies to bed linen. And clothes that are not intended for sleeping are not comfortable enough for a night's rest, which also will not allow you to relax and fall asleep soundly.
Choose high-quality bed linen and pajamas. They are more pleasant to the body, absorb moisture well, and allow the body to breathe.
Heavy curtains and bedspreads are textiles that can accumulate microorganisms and dust harmful to health. On the other hand, it is heavy curtains that can tightly close the windows and prevent light from entering the room, which interferes with the production of a sufficient amount of melanin. Therefore, if such elements are present in the interior, it is necessary that they are always clean.
Foreign odors. Unpleasant, pungent odors not only make it difficult to fall asleep, but can even cause frequent awakenings at night.Scientists have proven that various kinds of aromas affect the quality of sleep no less than sound and light. Be sure to ventilate the room before going to bed. Fresh air is one of the main aspects of sound sleep.
Dirty dishes and leftover food are uncharacteristic attributes for the bedroom. But still, many people like to have a snack before bed and leave tea cups and half-eaten food on the bedside table. It is worth understanding that leftover food attracts various insects (cockroaches, flies, ants), and they, in turn, can interfere with your sleep. In addition, crumbs may end up on the bed, which will also not add comfort.
For healthy sleep, it doesn’t matter what size the apartment is or how many rooms it has. It is much more important how its owner approached the arrangement of his bedroom or place to relax.
