How do American bedrooms differ from ours: one important detail

We often learn about the life of Americans from their own films, which, it seems to us, show all the little things of life and everyday life. But directors are not always able to fully depict all the nuances - sometimes they still embellish the picture.

Take, for example, cinematic American bedrooms. What do we see? The bed is made just perfectly - not a single wrinkle, so you can throw on pillows, a blanket, and even a bedspread. What's in reality? It turns out that the inhabitants of America are deprived of such a benefit of civilization as a duvet cover - and this is precisely the feature that distinguishes their bedroom from ours.

It's all about the sheets

Many Russian people who for some reason ended up in the USA (whether it be a business trip, vacation, permanent residence) are indignant at the fact that there are no duvet covers in America. Moreover, even finding them in stores is a rather difficult quest that can take months to complete.

Local residents also shrug their shoulders, because they have long ago become accustomed to doing without this element of bed linen. In fact, the American bed looks completely different. Their system is built on... sheets. If you evaluate a typical bed for a US resident, it will look like this:

a sheet used to cover the mattress;
pillows;
another sheet;
blanket;
and one more sheet!

It's difficult, isn't it? In such a heap of laundry, it’s immediately clear that the center becomes a blanket - like some kind of sandwich. But even for us it will be obvious that by morning the entire structure will turn into a crumpled nest, because each layer will live its own life.

The classic American bed linen set consists of pillowcases and three sheets.

According to immigrants, it is simply impossible to get the usual duvet cover in the United States. However, this is not quite true. Instead, Americans use special thick sheets, to which the blanket is attached using Velcro or buttons. And also in large European stores (for example, IKEA) you can find Duvet sets, where you can find a duvet cover in the usual sense. True, it’s a little difficult to find them, but if you want, you can still do it.
