Electric or petrol trimmer: which is better?
Both devices, regardless of the type of fuel, are designed approximately the same. They work on a general principle and have an almost identical structure. They consist of three main components:
- Engine. It is divided into two types - gasoline and electric.
- Shaft. It is responsible for transmitting rotation from the motor to the bobbin under the knives.
- Bobbin. This is where the fishing line or sharp blade is installed.
The motor can be located at the top or bottom. The first is much more common, especially in gasoline-powered devices. The second option is not very convenient, since the engine can easily be damaged by lying stones and large branches, and with such placement it is impossible to mow in conditions of high humidity.
Experts recommend purchasing a trimmer with an overhead engine and a rigid shaft. Such models are more expensive, but versatile and much more reliable.
Advantages of gasoline mowers
The devices are usually more powerful and can cope with large areas and complex terrain. The advantages of this design:
- mobility - the operator moves long distances without experiencing inconvenience;
- power - even inexpensive models greatly exceed the performance of electrical appliances;
- ease of repair - technical components are purchased in stores and replaced by experienced hands of a craftsman.
But such devices have their drawbacks. In particular, a lot of weight, which not every adult can handle. Starting the engine in cold weather is much more difficult, since the design is represented by a mechanical starter. Gasoline models require regular cleaning and monitoring of the oil level and the condition of consumables. If you leave this to chance, the engine life will be significantly reduced.
Advantages of electric trimmers
Garden power tool can be divided into two broad categories. Some are represented by models powered by electricity, others are started using charged batteries.
If the area near the house does not exceed 5–7 acres, an electric trimmer is the best option.
Advantages of the device:
- weight - the electric motor weighs much less and even a not very physically developed person can handle it;
- mobility - easy to work on narrow paths and flower beds, where mowing is carried out extremely carefully;
- maintenance - the owner only needs to regularly change the lubricant in the gearbox;
- savings - there is no need to explain that electricity is much cheaper than gasoline;
- price - such devices are affordable.
But the models also have their disadvantages. For example, reliability: such a lawn mower does not withstand critical loads well and can fail if the grass mowing does not go according to plan. In addition, the devices have much less power than their gasoline counterparts.
The downside is the dependence on the outlet.The operator will have to constantly monitor the location of the wire in the area being covered.
Which one to choose?
Both options have their own pros and cons, so it's worth considering your purchase in terms of all the important factors. For example, an electric model is perfect for mowing small areas with soft and short grass. They are mobile and lightweight - even a woman can handle it.
Gasoline cars are distinguished by high power, productivity, they can be used to move around large areas, there are no wires. But the maintenance and weight of the device require operator experience.
