Changing the oil in a walk-behind tractor

One of the mandatory manipulations if you constantly operating a walk-behind tractor, - Change of oil. The usefulness of the work and the duration of use of the equipment depend on the regularity of the procedure. Let's look at the features of this type of service.

The process of changing the oil in the internal combustion engine

If such a procedure is performed for the first time, then this must be done after the device has been completely run-in. When replacing again, it is necessary to ensure that the product being poured is of the same type and manufacturer as the one used before. The entire replacement process looks like this:

  • you need to start by warming up the engine;
  • then drain the old product, and upon completion, wipe the equipment with a dry cloth;
  • fill in new lubricant to the required level (as a rule, the container needs to be almost full);
  • check the oil level using the dipstick;
  • Clean the filling hole with a cloth and close it.

If there is no drain at the bottom, then the procedure for removing the old product should be carried out through the filler hole. Replacement is often carried out after downtime, if repairs were made during which new spare parts were installed, or there was an increased load on the motor.

How much oil is required, how to check

Depends on the volume of the internal combustion engine. The required amount can be from 0.6 to 1.1 liters. You can check using the factory dipstick, which has minimum and maximum marks.If the lubricant level is below Min, replacement is required.

Not all equipment models are equipped with a probe with marks. In this case, you should focus on the middle - if the level reaches the center, then there is enough oil. Well, if there is no dipstick, then you should visually understand whether there is enough lubricant for full operation - look behind the filler neck. If the liquid almost reaches it, then a change is not needed yet.

How to change the oil in a gearbox yourself

Carrying out this manipulation for the gearbox is just as important as the regularity of the procedure described above. The process is almost no different from replacing the lubricant in the engine and is a sequence of actions:

  • you need to place the device on a flat surface;
  • Place a suitable container under the drain hole and carefully open it;
  • wait until all the old product has drained;
  • close the drain and open the filler plug;
  • insert a watering can into it, pour the product in a volume of approximately 2 liters;
  • Check the level using a dipstick (70 cm long wire bent into an arc) - it should exceed 30 cm.

With intensive use, replacement will be required after 50 hours of operation.

Important! Automotive oil should not be used for agricultural machinery, regardless of whether it runs on a diesel or gasoline internal combustion engine. The equipment motor differs from the vehicle motor in design features, temperature conditions and some other characteristics.

How often to change the oil

It depends on many factors. If agricultural equipment is used intensively, the oil should be changed more often. For a new engine, the procedure is required after the first five hours of operation. In the future, the frequency should be every 25 hours of operation.

Experienced equipment owners change the engine oil after winter, before the start of the season, regardless of the intensity of last year's work.
