DIY chainsaw cultivator
Those who prefer to eat vegetables from their garden or grow them for sale know that a variety of equipment greatly facilitates work on the site. One such useful device is a cultivator. For many, its cost seems high, so craftsmen are developing new ways to make a homemade cultivator. Let's see what ideas There is a tutorial on creating a similar technique using a chainsaw.

General aspects of making a cultivator
The advantages of such a base are low weight and good power. The result is a compact device that manages to effectively cultivate the land.
In addition to the engine, the required elements of the manufactured equipment must include:
- fuel tank;
- intermediate shaft.
All this needs to be fixed to the frame.
All of the listed parts, except the last one, are found in the chainsaw. And the frame will need to be welded yourself. This task can be accomplished using metal profiles with a cross-section of 32*32 mm.
The most popular options for chainsaws are “Ural” and “Friendship”. Let's look at the nuances of each option.
Homemade from the Ural model
First of all, the equipment used for the base should be disassembled. As already mentioned, the future cultivator needs a motor, a fuel tank, and a gearbox. Further:
- the frame is welded - the material chosen for it must ensure sufficient strength and resistance of the structure to loads and characteristic vibration;
- in the upper transverse part of the constructed frame - at the corners - the motor is fixed;
- underneath there is a fuel tank - special brackets are used to secure it, and at the bottom it is protected by a metal plate;
- on the frame struts located vertically in front, the intermediate shaft supports are fixed using longitudinal angles;
- the role of the control element will be performed by a 30-centimeter crossbar placed transversely;
- At the bottom, for convenience, you can fix the wheels - they will fit from an old car.
Before starting operation, you need to weight the structure by placing some kind of weight in its front part. This will prevent its accidental displacement due to vibration, which can lead to damage to the main components of the homemade device - the engine and the intermediate shaft.
The equipment created in this way will not “pull” large canopies. It is optimally used for soil cultivation. Having bought a hitch in a specialized store, you can work on such a cultivator in tandem with a self-made harrow or plow.
When using a homemade product, you should periodically let it “rest” to avoid overheating and damage.
Technique from the saw "Friendship"
When manufacturing in this way, there is no need for global work:
- a special slate is installed on the main shaft (suitable type RU-32) - this is necessary to be able to fix the shaft to the base;
- it is possible to create a sufficient gap separating the gear axle from the ground using the sprockets used in the UAZ;
- a housing bearing is fixed on the main bridge - its internal circumference should not exceed 3 cm;
- the role of a gearbox equipped with a gearbox can be performed by a motor taken from a moped;
- to fix the cutters and wheels used for more convenient operation, a steel pipe is suitable - its length should be 32 cm;
- the load located in front will make the structure heavier.
To make a cultivator, it is recommended to take a 4th generation model of equipment.
The resulting homemade product will have two gears and reach speeds of up to 2.5 km/h. For its operation, it is permissible to use any fuel and oil. The type of operation of the equipment is autonomous - in comparison with the use of electric options, this is very convenient. Due to the complete tightness of the internal elements, the device made by yourself is not afraid of any vagaries of the weather.
