Self-propelled and non-self-propelled lawn mower: differences
The main difference between self-propelled devices is the connection of the wheel drive. In this case, the operator does not have to push the device in front of him. The device will independently perform the work at the proper charge level and return to its place.
This feature is especially useful in areas with uneven terrain.
In large areas, experts advise giving preference to self-propelled models. After all, not every operator will be able to push a machine weighing more than 30 kg in front of him for a long time. In addition, not everyone likes long walks, so a powered mower will be a lifesaver.
People with poor physical fitness find it difficult to operate large equipment, especially in uneven areas where significant effort is required to navigate potholes and drops. The self-propelled version overcomes all obstacles on its own, without requiring much operator effort.
There is only one disadvantage of such devices - the price: they cost several times more than portable models.
Which mower should you choose?
To summarize, you should choose which device is best to buy for your own site. Self-propelled devices are suitable if:
- large area;
- the territory is characterized by uneven landscape and differences in planes;
- the operator is not ready to make serious physical efforts;
- the person does not like long walks.
When purchasing, keep in mind that servicing the drives will also cost a lot of money, while in non-self-propelled ones the components can easily be changed independently if you have at least a minimal understanding of the device’s design.
If budget comes first among the selection criteria, give preference to a non-self-propelled model.
Suitable for small and flat areas, as well as for people who are inclined to walk in the fresh air and are physically strong enough to handle heavy equipment.
