How to repair a hole in a watering hose?
Watering is required for all plants in the garden, including even lawns. Without timely irrigation, grass and vegetable crops will wilt and stop growing, falling behind generally accepted rates.
A torn watering hose or a crack in the rubber can greatly ruin a gardener's mood.
This situation happens quite often and you should be prepared for it. By purchasing repair materials and tools in advance, you can fix the leak in a timely manner.
How to fix a rubber watering hose?
There are several simple and quick ways to fix a hole in a rubber hose for watering a garden. First, you need to decide on the nature of the damage, find it on the pipe and examine it from all sides, determine the diameter and length of the damaged part.
Next, select one of the available options in accordance with the characteristics of the defect:
- Glue for rubber products.
- A special kit for repairing car tires.
- Electrical tape.
- A piece of a similar pipe.
- Connector.
The first three methods are intended exclusively for minor damage that can be easily repaired with your own hands, without resorting to the tricks of specialized tools.
For example, glue is applied directly to the hole, which has been previously washed and dried, and also treated with a degreaser. It is necessary to apply a dense layer, but make sure that it does not get inside the rubber tube.
If this happens, when pressure is applied, a breakthrough will occur in another place in the watering hose.
If you can hide the hole with electrical tape, do so. To make it hold tighter, pre-treat the cut area with alcohol or nail polish remover.
A tire repair kit can be found in almost every driver’s arsenal. With its help, you can put a patch on a damaged rubber tube. Also find the hole and degrease it. Cut the patch to the required size so that it covers the hole plus a couple more centimeters. Glue it with special glue and press it with pressure.
Complex options
The method with the insertion of an additional rubber tube is considered more labor-intensive, but also reliable. It is used in cases of large defects. To do this, cut out a sleeve with a length equal to the distance at which the damage is located with an allowance of two centimeters on each side.
The tube is cut lengthwise with sharp scissors and placed on the damaged area. For reliability, it is recommended to use glue or electrical tape to secure the parts to each other.
For those who regularly assemble an irrigation system on their site, it will not be a problem to assemble the structure using an adapter. It can be purchased at a specialty store. Connect it according to the manufacturer's instructions using threads.
First cut the hose at the damage site, leaving only the “healthy” part.
A similarly restored hose will last a few more seasons in a row, without causing problems to the owner.
