How to assemble a Fokina flat cutter

The Fokina flat cutter is used in dachas, vegetable gardens, garden plots, and also for cleaning local areas. Its versatility is great. If desired, the tool can replace a shovel, hoe, rake and other devices that are in the gardener’s arsenal. Or you can assemble a flat cutter yourself and use it along with other tools.

How to assemble a Fokin flat cutter correctly?

The design of the classic device is as simple as possible. It consists of a metal nozzle, a wooden or plastic handle and two bolts with which both parts are connected to each other.

Versatility is the main trump card of the device. You don’t have to reconfigure it, and its convenience depends on proper use.

Original flat cutters have a mark located directly on the nozzle. The large letter “F” is stamped directly onto the metal. Sometimes it is replaced with a special sticker, which always contains the inscription “from Fokin”. This does not mean at all that tools from other manufacturers are worse or better.

What does the stalk look like?

The nozzle holder comes in different configurations. Some of them are universal - nozzles can be attached to them in various configurations. Others already have sawn holes - they require a certain angle of inclination of the metal tip.

A special feature of the cutting is its oval shape, which can be seen in cross-section.This protects the gardener’s hands from calluses, and the cutting does not twist during work.

The thickness of the holder is about 18–20 mm. When making it yourself, the instructions indicate the need to draw two parallel lines relative to the axis of the cutting, retreating from it at least one and a half centimeters. These will be the holes for the bolts, which are slightly offset from the center of the handle.

The standard handle length is 130 cm, but in stores you will find a small tool with a length of 110 cm or a large one with a handle of 160 cm. This is a necessity for people with short and tall stature.

Methods for assembling a flat cutter

For large and small tools, there are two options for the same assembly:

  1. Screwing the inside of the nozzle to the handle. This way you will have to put in less effort when weeding the beds.
  2. Attaching the outer side of the metal tip to the handle. Tilling the soil will require significant physical effort from the gardener.

It is permissible to attach the plate parallel to the handle on a large Fokin flat cutter. In this case, the knife will be perpendicular to the handle. Another option is when the knife is located at an angle. This is made possible by additional holes in the large tool holder.

Fastening is carried out with bolts and nuts. For long service life of the flat cutter, we recommend using metal washers larger than the fastener head. The nature of working with the device depends on the mounting method - try all possible options, which will help you choose the one suitable for working on the site.
