Fruits that can be grown on a windowsill from seeds

Apartment garden - utopia or reality? Recently, more and more people are abandoning store-bought vegetables and fruits, growing their own crops on the balcony. Of course, you can’t get grapes or watermelons that way. However, there are a lot of fruits that can be grown from one seed in a pot. I’ll tell you about them today.

The content of the article

Citrus

It doesn’t matter what you like more - lemon, orange or grapefruit. All this can be easily planted right in the apartment, without particularly straining. To grow a lemon or orange tree, place the seed in loose, moist soil to a depth of about three centimeters.

Place the pot with the seed on the windowsill, covering it with film. To grow citrus fruits, the correct temperature is important - about 25 degrees Celsius. As soon as the first shoots appear, move the pot to the sun under a phytolamp.

The citrus tree is one of the most unpretentious. It is beautiful and lush and will easily fit into your interior. Its leaves purify and disinfect the air in the room, and the plant emits a pleasant aroma.

True, the first fruits appear 10-15 years after planting. A faster harvest can only be obtained from special dwarf trees.

Persimmon

A juicy tropical fruit can also be grown from a seed. There is only one condition - the persimmon must be ripe. Stores often sell greenish fruits that last longer on the counter. Therefore, after purchasing, put the persimmon in the same bag with an apple and a banana, which will help it ripen faster.

After this, carefully remove the seeds from the fruit so as not to damage them. Leave them for a couple of days in a solution of potassium permanganate, and then dry them on a radiator for two months. Only after this the seeds will be ready for planting.

Fill the pot with soil - a mixture of sand and peat in equal proportions. Carefully place the seed to a depth of about two centimeters and cover with soil. In summer you can keep the tree in your apartment, and in winter you can hide it in a cold cellar.

The first fruits of your labors will appear before the citrus fruits: in about 5-7 years.

Avocado

First you need to buy a ripe fruit. To allow the avocado to ripen, leave it in the refrigerator for several days. Unprepared seeds will not bear any fruit, and all labor will be in vain.

Carefully remove the avocado pit. Place the blunt end into the prepared soil, leaving the sharp end protruding slightly. Keep the pot at a temperature of around 18 degrees. In winter, it is better to move the plant in the cold.

The first fruits can be harvested after 3-4 years of careful care.

Kiwi

Growing kiwi is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks on this list. The most difficult seeds to obtain will be those deeply embedded in the pulp. To do this, carefully scrape out the core of the juicy fruit with a spoon, and then rinse it under running water.

The resulting black seeds need to be planted in loose soil, sprinkled with soil literally a couple of millimeters. Kiwi is adapted to the climate of central Russia, and therefore does not require any special care.

The first fruits appear 4-5 years after planting. Moreover, one plant can bear fruit for up to half a century in a row.

Beans

You can even sprout beans on your windowsill at home if you put enough effort into it. First you need to buy mature beans - they are sold by weight in any supermarket. After this, they need to be planted to a depth of three centimeters at a distance of ten from each other. Place the pot on a sunny windowsill.

It is best to dig a perch or trellis next to the beans so that the plant can climb. The beans begin to bear fruit two to three months after planting. This is perhaps the most “active” plant on the list.

Is this what you get? Figs with butter, not fruits. Lemons, citrus fruits, and persimmons have been grafted all their lives from fruit-bearing trees, not from seeds. From them you will get bitter fruits the size of a pea...
