How to glue drywall to an uneven wall with your own hands: pasting walls

There are several ways to glue drywall to a wall. They differ in the method of applying the adhesive mixture, as well as in the preparation of the wall. Drywall is a universal material that allows you to smooth out unevenness, including quite large ones. How to do this is described step by step in the presented article.

Preparatory work

Before you figure out how to glue drywall to a wall with your own hands, you need to do some preparatory work, i.e. remove old finish. You should proceed like this:

  1. Carefully inspect the surfaces and evaluate differences - the greatest in depth and height. To do this, use a building level. How to glue drywall to a wall
  2. Remove the old finish using a small ax and other tools. The wallpaper is completely torn off and the tiles are removed.Remove old finish
  3. Carry out wiring. Enclose it in a plastic corrugated pipe. Markings are made and grooves are made for laying wiring after repairs.
  4. Before you begin gluing drywall to the wall, remove the old facing material and inspect the wall for weak areas. If detected, they must be strengthened.
  5. In places where switches, sockets and distribution boxes are supposed to be installed, you will need to make recesses. The cables are covered with a layer of plaster or fixed to a bracket.Gluing drywall to walls
  6. If the differences in the walls are very large, gluing drywall to the walls is also possible. But there is no need to make special recesses for the wiring - you can lay it in these holes.Primer of walls
  7. The walls are carefully primed, and the composition is adjusted in advance depending on the properties of the surface. It is best if the composition includes antiseptic additives.
  8. Next, you can plan to glue the drywall to the wall. In order for everything to go correctly, it is necessary to determine the most protruding part and retreat 12.5 mm from it (the thickness of the plasterboard sheet).Marking
  9. A similar mark is transferred from the floor to the ceiling, and then markings are made along the entire surface of the wall using a cord.

Plasterboard gluing

Now we proceed to the main stage - gluing the drywall to the wall. There are 3 proven methods for this, the choice of which depends on the nature of the differences.

First way

The first option, how to glue drywall, is used in cases where the differences are not very significant, i.e. The walls are relatively smooth. Therefore, the easiest way to complete the work is to proceed as follows:

  1. Prepare the mixture at the rate of half a bucket per 1 sheet.
  2. There is no doubt about whether it is possible to glue drywall to the wall. It is important to do this correctly - first you need to mark and cut openings on it, if they are in the diagram. Is it possible to glue drywall to a wall?
  3. Using a notched trowel for laying tiles, apply the mixture to the sheet from the back side, and this must be done longitudinally. In those places where the depressions are especially strong, put the maximum amount of glue.Screenshot 2023-05-31 at 17.21.34
  4. It is clear how to glue drywall - it is applied to the wall exactly according to the markings. Moreover, slats are first placed on the floor, on which the sheet is laid, pointing “face” to the floor.
  5. They lift the sheet, pull the wiring through the holes and press it against the wall.If necessary, it is additionally fixed using self-tapping screws.

Second way

There is another way that allows you to glue drywall to the wall with your own hands. It is suitable for brick walls with fairly large differences. The algorithm is as follows:

  1. Prepare the surface, groove and lay the wiring. They also outline the output for sockets and lamps.
  2. Lay slats on the floor, and a plasterboard sheet on them. Mix the adhesive solution.
  3. Using a spatula, distribute the composition in small piles on the inside of the sheet. They should go in rows with an interval of 50-60 cm. If you plant drywall with tile adhesive to a wall with large unevenness, you should put more mixture there.Glue drywall to the wall with your own hands
  4. Lift the sheet and press it to the surface. If any areas stick out, they are gently tapped. Correct operation is checked using a building level.Glue the sheet to the wall

Third way

There is another way to glue drywall to an uneven wall. It is suitable for old walls with very large differences. The instructions are as follows:

  1. Prepare the surface and bring out the level at which each plasterboard sheet will be glued.
  2. They don’t work with them entirely - they pre-cut strips, each 100 mm wide.Cut strips
  3. The composition is also applied in heaps on the back side.
  4. Then they lift it and carefully press it against the wall, monitoring the correctness of the work according to the building level. This creates a kind of frame to which the casing will be attached. All you have to do is wait until the glue dries.Pinned to the wall
  5. Now you can glue the sheets themselves. First, they are laid on prepared wooden slats, placed on the back of a pile of adhesive mixture at intervals of 2.5 cm.
  6. They lift the leaves, pull the wiring into the openings and carefully press it against the wall, if necessary, tapping those places that protrude above the surface.

Thus, covering walls with plasterboard is quite accessible for independent work. For most premises, the first or second technology is suitable, which differs only in the features of applying the glue. In any case, the principle is the same - it is better to apply the composition to the leaves themselves, and not to the wall. If the difference is too large in one place, more mixture is added there. If necessary, the sheets are additionally reinforced with self-tapping screws.
