Many people are familiar with the process, but you need to take into account the features of the repair if the room has suspended ceilings. How to re-glue wallpaper with a suspended ceiling?
If damage cannot be avoided, take immediate action. Otherwise, the tension forces will work and the cut may become very large.
If wallpaper glue gets on the material, it must be removed immediately. Without this, the canvas will be damaged.
When planning to change wallpaper, I recommend taking care of the necessary construction tools. There is nothing unusual in the list; almost every element is present in any home:
- mounting knife;
- large brush (preferably several different types);
- special glue;
- spatulas of various widths;
- needle roller (optional);
- composition for removing old sheets (can be replaced with plain water).
Having made sure that everything is at hand, we begin work.
The nuances of removing old paintings
To remove used sheets, follow the instructions:
- Having dismantled the ceiling plinth or decorative strip, cover the stretched fabric (for example, with a wide spatula). Carefully with a sharp knife cut the sheets to be removed along the top, around the entire perimeter (even if they were glued after the ceiling was installed).
- We wet the paper generously with a special removal compound. In the absence of such a substance, use plain warm water. To make the wallpaper wet better, use a needle roller. Use it carefully near the ceiling: it is easy to damage the canvas.
- After waiting 10–15 minutes, pry up the edge from above with a spatula and try to remove the entire sheet. Having completely removed the old wallpaper on the wetted area, proceed to dismantling on the next one.
Upon completion of the work, the surface of the walls is primed. You can additionally level it using putty. We perform actions near the ceiling with extreme caution so as not to stain it.
You should not completely level the walls, otherwise a very noticeable ledge will form.
The process of wallpapering will be different depending on the method of hiding the technological gap between the wall and the canvas. It could be decorative insert or baseboard. The use of any of these products has its pros and cons.
We measure the height as accurately as possible and cut the sheets according to it. This is done so that you don’t have to adjust the length directly on the walls after sticking.
Such cutting significantly increases the risk of damage to the tensile structure. Therefore, cutting is done on the floor, and the pattern is adjusted there, if necessary. There are more inconveniences, but the canvas is safe.
Pasting with masking tape
Before pasting it is completely removed. Carefully work with old and new sheets near the structure so as not to cause damage.After installing the tape, return it to its place.
Finishing without dismantling the ceiling plinth
If a ceiling plinth is used, it does not need to be dismantled. In this case, the wallpaper is glued end to end. This requires increased attention and caution from the master not only when pasting walls, but also when removing old wallpaper.
The problem of ordering: which is correct?
So what should you do first? Professionals can easily complete the work in any order. When performing this process yourself, it is better to first complete the manipulations with the walls, and only then begin arranging the ceiling.
It is not easy to implement your plans with your own hands, but it is doable. I advise you, if you doubt your own abilities, turn to professionals. This way you can be confident in the quality of the repairs carried out.
