DIY for the kitchen. DIY knife stand

To prevent knives from creating a mess in the kitchen, wandering from table to table, you need to come up with an interesting and convenient place to store them. The ideal option is a special stand. But such a purchase is an expensive pleasure, and sometimes finding a model that will fit all the knives in the house is problematic. However, there is a solution, and it is very simple: you can make a stand yourself from scrap materials.

It’s not difficult to create such a kitchen attribute. Stands can be horizontal or vertical. The choice of material is also huge: they are made of wood, plastic or plywood. Interesting models from old books, magnetic or with filler. In a word, there is room for imagination to run wild.

Types of stands

These devices can be roughly divided into separate groups. So, in the classic kitchen of the average family you can find the following stand options:

  1. Holders. They are wall mounted and are suitable for small spaces where every centimeter of space is used. Such models will fit perfectly into any interior and are ideal for knives due to the fact that the metal is exposed to the open air, rust does not form on it, and pathogenic bacteria do not accumulate on it. In addition, the holders are suitable not only for storing knives, but also for placing any other metal utensils.
  2. Shelves. As a rule, these are wooden structures that are placed in a wall niche or above a cutting table on a rail. However, such models are not always practical: bacteria accumulate in the knife compartments and are difficult to wash; the knife may accidentally fall out and damage the tabletop; It is easy to get injured if you pull out the tool carelessly (for example, grab the blade instead of the handle). Making such a design yourself is feasible, but troublesome. In addition, the stores sell very decent options.
  3. Racks. Perhaps the most common option. This is a vertical, most often wooden structure with special compartments for knives. A professional carpenter can make one himself, so most often it is bought together with a set of knives.
  4. Universal glasses with fillers. An interesting option that is easy to make yourself. This stand is a deep container made of thick glass or plastic, into which cereals, legumes or even pasta are poured. The main disadvantage of a glass with filler is that you won’t be able to store a large number of tools in it.

DIY stand options

To make such a kitchen appliance, you will need a bit of imagination, a handful of patience and a creative impulse. We bring to your attention several interesting stands that even a non-professional can handle making.

Wall holder

To make such a stand you need:

  • a wooden sheet 35–75 cm long (depending on how many knives will be stored) and 5–8 cm wide;
  • drill;
  • “Moment” type glue;
  • 5–8 round magnets (they must be powerful so that the knives hold well);
  • two brackets to secure the stand;
  • nails;
  • hammer.

First you should start preparing the board. It needs to be polished and given the desired shape. Then make holes on the back side for the magnets (it is important to focus on their sizes). The magnets are attached to the “holes” using glue. In addition, they can be secured with a plastic cover. After this, brackets are attached to the outside of the stand and the structure is placed on the wall.

Important! You need to carefully choose the “place of residence” of the stand. It should not be mounted on a cabinet door, an uneven wall, or in places where children can easily reach it.

Old book stand

Perhaps the simplest option. To make such a device you will need:

  • old thick books (each with at least 300 pages);
  • rubber bands for banknotes.

This work does not require any special skills. Books should be placed in a neat stack and wrapped tightly with rubber bands. Such a stand will not last long, since the knives will damage the pages, and water (and its entry is inevitable) has a detrimental effect on the paper. But it is convenient to use.

Glass with filler

For the body, you can use a glass vase, a tin jar, or a wooden box. The filler can be anything. So, a stand with bamboo sticks or spaghetti looks stylish (especially if you paint them).

knifes

An interesting option is made from plastic brush rods. To do this, you need to buy a broom at a hardware store and pull out the twigs from it. Their ends should be trimmed and placed tightly in a container.

The stand is decorated with artificial flowers, beautiful rope, pebbles or shells. In addition, the filler can be combined, for example, alternating layers of cereals and pasta.

By the way! Bulk materials must be changed periodically, as insects or mold may form in them.

So, the lack of a stand is not a problem. You just need to give free rein to your imagination, and such a useful kitchen appliance will be ready. However, when making it, it is important to take into account that it is as safe and convenient as possible. Thus, it is recommended to use high-quality materials and place the stand on a stable surface.
