How to remove dried and old stains
If used incorrectly baking dishes, then traces of dough, sugar, jam, jam, fat and other products may remain on the walls. They need to be removed immediately. Otherwise, it will not be possible to wash the silicone walls at all.
Do not scrub off food residues with a hard brush or scrape them with a knife!
If after cooking there are small particles of baked goods left on the pan, they can be cleaned with regular soda, after soaking the dishes in warm water. But if the dirt is old and ingrained, then a more effective remedy will be needed.
Lemon acid
A fairly simple and affordable method, because all the ingredients for cleaning can be found at home. You will need:
- large bowl;
- 3 liters of warm water;
- 20-30 g of citric acid.
You need to choose a bowl of such a size that the silicone mold fits completely into it. You can also take a large saucepan.Citric acid is diluted in water and the burnt dishes are immersed in the liquid for 15-20 minutes. Then the silicone is wiped with a soft sponge, rinsed well and dried.
Lemon and soda
First, place the baking dish in boiling water for approximately 20 minutes. Prepare the mixture: the juice of one lemon is mixed with 30 grams of soda to form a thick paste. The composition is applied to problem areas and left for 15 minutes. Then wipe off the dirt with a sponge or soft brush and rinse well.
This method works best for burnt jam or fat.
Water, soda and dish gel
Dissolve 20 ml of dishwashing detergent and 50 grams of soda in 2 liters of water. Place a silicone mold into the prepared mixture. Place the pan on the stove and bring the liquid to a boil. After 7 minutes, turn off the fire and leave the dishes in the water for another half hour. Then the mold is cleaned a little with a sponge and rinsed with running water.
Laundry soap with soda ash
The method is similar to the previous one, only the means will be different:
- pour 3 liters of water into the pan;
- add 50 grams of soda ash there;
- grate a bar of laundry soap (about 25 g);
- dissolve everything well in water;
- place the silicone mold in the liquid and bring to a boil;
- after 5 minutes, remove the pan from the stove and leave for 30 minutes;
- rinse well and dry.
How to get rid of strong odor
Silicone utensils are quite strong and durable, they will not break if dropped, and are absolutely safe for health. But sometimes you can smell an unpleasant odor from silicone - a consequence of improper care. If you don’t clean off stains, grease and carbon deposits in a timely manner, then over time it is they that provoke the aroma. To get rid of an unpleasant odor, you can use several methods:
- Activated carbon. These tablets are an effective adsorbent that will both clean and remove rancid odor. It needs to be crushed into powder, mixed with a small amount of water and wiped with the composition on silicone molds.
- Dilute the vinegar solution in water in a 1:1 ratio. Wet the sponge and wipe the surfaces. Leave on for a few minutes and rinse off with clean water.
- Potato. A medium potato is grated and the dishes are treated with this paste.
- Distribute the coffee grounds over the entire surface of the silicone mold and leave it like that for 30-40 minutes. Then rinse with water.
- To get rid of an unpleasant odor, 30 grams of mustard powder should be mixed with 400 ml of warm water. Pour the resulting solution into the mold and leave for 30-40 minutes. Afterwards you just need to rinse with clean water and dry.
How to remove small stains around the edges
Typically, silicone molds are not greased before use because they are already coated with a non-stick compound. However, in some cases, traces of dough may remain on the edges of the pan. There is no need to clean the entire product. Simply make a paste of baking soda and gently rub the edges of the mold with it. But this is only effective if you notice the contamination after cooking, when the stuck food is still fresh. Otherwise, you will still have to soak the form.
Rules of care
In order for silicone cookware to last a long time and the food in it not to burn, it must be properly cared for:
- Immediately after purchase, the product must be washed and treated with oil. Subsequent lubrication is not necessary if the mold is made of high-quality silicone.
- After each use, the container must be rinsed to remove all crumbs, remaining dough, jam, sugar, preserves.
- When cleaning silicone, it is strictly forbidden to use rough brushes, abrasive dishwashing detergents, hard sponges, or sharp objects.
- To prevent the appearance of mold on the surface of the silicone, the mold must be dried well, or even better, wiped with a dry cloth.
- Products should be stored in a closed place, as the material quickly absorbs dust.
