Decanter and jug - what are the differences?
They lie primarily in the design.
Material of manufacture
Decanters, as a rule, are either glass or crystal. However, in stores you can find single copies - porcelain or clay, but such options are usually used not for their intended purpose, but as decoration or a souvenir.
Clay, plastic, metal, and porcelain are used to make jugs.
Shape and Features
The decanter is sometimes quite bizarre in appearance, but, in essence, the design of this vessel is always recognizable. It usually resembles a bottle. The lower part is quite wide (there is liquid there), and the upper part is a narrow neck. The presence of a cork is a prerequisite. And it almost never has a spout or handle.
Jug Its design is more reminiscent of a teapot. This is a rather “pot-bellied” vessel, but its neck can also have a narrowing, although not as sharp as that of a decanter. The essential parts of a jug are a spout (for easy pouring) and a handle. The cover is at the request of the manufacturer (this is not important).
Color, decoration
Decor is another main difference between these two vessels.
Decanters are usually transparent, and therefore their design is specific.Rarely do they have designs or prints on them. Usually this is engraving, carved ornaments and edges, and varnishing. In some cases, in order to give the product aesthetics, silver cutouts are placed on it, which makes the product more solid, but also increases its cost, and significantly.
Jugs can be decorated in different ways. Often this is a monochromatic base, which is painted with simple patterns, ornaments, stripes, and flowers.
Purpose
It is worth noting that both a decanter and a jug are vessels for storing, serving and pouring liquids. But the drinks will be different in this case too.
Decanters are mostly designed for alcoholic drinks, often strong ones. This includes cognac, whiskey, vodka, rum, but also wine, liqueurs, liqueurs, various liqueurs, and even water and fruit drinks.
Simpler liquids, non-alcoholic - water, juices, milk, compote - are poured into a jug. It is unlikely that you will find wine served in it, much less vodka. Sometimes it can be used to store cereals, jam, honey, flour, but here it is important that the product is made of clay.
