Why wax the floor?

Wax is used to polish the floor if you want to maintain the beautiful appearance of the coating for as long as possible. In addition, a protective layer of parquet appears if you use oil instead of varnish. In the process of rubbing the floor, the product allows you to hermetically seal the seams. Thanks to this, moisture and dust will not accumulate between the joints, and the appearance of the coating will not deteriorate.

The composition impregnates the wood, creating a glossy film on its surface. The coating is thin, but resistant to defects, it can protect the floor from scratches and water. This composition will help give the floor shine and cleanliness, as it was after installing the parquet.

What type of coating should be waxed?

Any wooden surface can be waxed. Typically, parquet is made from ash, beech, oak or coniferous wood. Wax coating is considered better than regular varnish because the mixture contains oils that not only coat the floor, but are absorbed into it. The coating becomes durable. The advantages of using are the following:

  • The floor becomes antistatic.
  • The coating is warm to the touch and not as slippery as something coated with varnish.
  • The oil penetrates inside, protecting the materials from the inside.
  • On a floor coated with such a product, scratches, defects, abrasions, etc. are faintly visible.
  • Excellent waterproof properties. It repels moisture, protecting the floor from mold and rot.

Even exotic types of wood can be polished, unlike varnish, which is not suitable for all types of wood.

How to properly wax a floor

Before polishing, the floor must be cleared of debris and dust. Wax is a thick substance and is applied to the parquet in a thin layer. Then it should be left for a while until it dries. After this you can begin polishing. This is done using soft felt or a sanding machine.

The parquet is pre-washed, dust, dirt, debris are removed, furniture and carpets are removed. Prepare the solution. After this you can start working.

First you need to rub the old layer of wax, which has been preserved from previous work, and only then can you use a new composition. On sale you can find oil with dyes that will allow the parquet to take on a completely new look. After some time, the old composition can be removed and rubbed with a new one if you want to change the shade.

Floor wax

Before starting work, the floors are coated with oil. And only after the oil has completely dried can you use this product (usually this takes 2 days). It is applied in several layers, each of which must be polished to level the surface. The advantage of the technology is that all minor scratches and defects on the wood will disappear.

Polishing your floor with wax is an affordable and easy way to restore your parquet flooring to its beautiful appearance. But the protective shell also allows you to extend the service life of coatings, protecting them from defects. The main thing is to do all the work correctly and choose a high-quality solution (read the instructions before purchasing).
