Composition of parquet boards
A parquet board consists of three layers, but if you take into account the covering layer (oil or varnish), you get 4.
The top one is wood material of valuable species. For example:
- Clear.
- Beech.
- Oak.
The thickness of the top is from 0.05 to 0.6 mm. But if you choose the last value (0.6 mm), the price of the structure will be high. The first one (0.05) is also very rare, because it is too thin (we are not even talking about millimeters, but about microns). Surface layers are processed in production, since the most important parameter of this layer is its beautiful appearance. It is bleached, tinted, varnished and primed.
Medium – coniferous species (pine and spruce). Thickness is up to 1 cm. Sometimes, other types of wood (most often growing in the south) are used for the middle layer if the parquet is made in the southern territory.
Attention! The middle one is considered the most important part of the product, since its strength and service life depend on it. It makes cuts connecting the panels. It is made in the form of locks or tongues.
The third is made from whole panels of coniferous trees. Thickness up to 0.3 cm.It is also responsible for strength, but at the same time its main functions are protection from moisture and preventing friction of the parquet against the base of the floor.
What are the differences in composition?
To determine the type of product, three names were created, which depend on the design of the base. Among them:
- PD-1. The base is single-layer and slatted. Rectangular shape.
- PD-2. The base is also slatted, but it runs along the entire axis of the panels.
- PD-3. Made from two slatted layers. They are glued together.
But now it is customary to divide parquet according to the number of tiles. For example:
- Single layer parquet. The top one is made from the main elements (dies).
- Double layer. The cheek has two dies. Their size can be different, and is selected based on the characteristics of the room.
- Three-layer. Made from three dies. The material used to make them may vary. Thanks to this, there is a wide variety of colors, which gives the materials originality.
How to choose a parquet board based on composition
The choice of boards depends on the room and some other characteristics. For example:
- If parquet is installed in a bathroom, kitchen or other room with high humidity, it is better to choose a product that contains coniferous wood. They are well protected from moisture.
- For rooms with high traffic (corridor, living room), it is better to choose thick, three-layer parquet. If you choose too thin, the service life will be lower (from constant walking on the surface, thin parquet breaks). It is also recommended to focus on coniferous species, since they are less susceptible to defects.
- For rooms with low traffic (bedroom, rooms), it is better to choose two-layer or single-layer boards. They are not very durable, but the product is flexible and easier to install and process (cut off excess).
Coniferous wood is most often used as the composition of boards, since it is durable and can withstand moisture.
