Types and structure of material

Types of material:

  1. Piece parquet - consists of boards 20–50 cm long, 4–7 cm wide, 1–2 cm thick. They are connected to each other by grooves located on the sides of each board. When laying block parquet, painstaking work of a specialist is required.
  2. Modular is a block consisting of modules (puzzles). Each puzzle has a different size, shape and wood pattern.
  3. Artistic - consists of panels of different colors and sizes. The pattern is obtained depending on the method of laying the panels and their combination (border, rosette, artistic design).
  4. Parquet board - consists of three layers glued together:
  • top layer (4 mm) - made of natural wood, treated with a varnish or oil coating that protects the surface from various types of damage, and has an attractive appearance;
  • middle layer (9 mm) - consists of slats interlocked with a locking joint, made of deciduous or coniferous wood;
  • the bottom layer (1.5 mm) is the base of the parquet board, laid out with slats interlocked with each other.

IMPORTANT! All layers are applied perpendicular to each other.

Parquet boards are divided into categories according to the number of stripes:

  1. Single-strip - a solid board with a pattern of fibers and knots. It is convenient and quick to install. Well suited for large areas.
  2. Two-lane - has a relief surface. Consists of two boards.
  3. Three-strip - consists of three planks in the form of modular sections, which are made of different wood. On the floor it looks like block parquet.
  4. Four-lane - made from wood waste. Consists of four narrow stripes. As a result, such parquet looks colorful.

Parquet laying options

There are several ways to lay parquet boards:

  1. Dry - the boards are fastened together with a locking joint, like a puzzle. However, they are not attached to the base with glue. The advantage is that if you make a mistake, it's easy to fix. In the future, dismantling several planks will not be difficult. This method is resistant to changes in temperature and humidity.
  2. Glue - boards are glued to the base. Used for installation in large rooms.
  3. Longitudinal - boards are laid from wall to wall.
  4. Diagonal - boards begin to be laid from the corner. This method is more labor-intensive.There are a lot of scraps left. But it looks more presentable than the longitudinal one.
  5. Deck - the boards are laid one after another.

IMPORTANT! When laying between the wall and the parquet board, it is necessary to leave a few millimeters, as the coating may swell a little.

Parquet boards can be laid out in different patterns:

  • herringbone (visually it looks like the boards are of different textures);
  • checkers (square modules alternate according to the pattern);
  • wickerwork (visually looks like weaving boards);
  • rhombuses (placed at an angle of 45 degrees, creating a 3D effect).

Using parquet for wall decoration

Parquet on the wall will become a highlight in your interior. In this way, only one wall in the room or a certain area is isolated.

Any type of wood is suitable for the wall, since this surface is not subject to mechanical stress, like the floor. There are parquet boards on sale specifically for wall decoration. They have a more complex relief or 3D effect.

ATTENTION! For a glossy effect, the wall is coated with varnish, for a matte effect - with oil.

Mechanical fasteners will hide unevenness and defects of the wall. In the interior, such finishing is used in combination with flooring and other wooden elements (stairs, furniture). A parquet wall will fit perfectly to create eco-style, Provence, country, hi-tech and loft.
