Preparing linoleum before laying parquet boards
It's worth starting with the fact that linoleum should be carefully prepared before laying parquet on top.
- It should not be soggy and soft or too dirty.
- It is advisable to treat the old surface with antifungal detergents.
- It must be even; if there are bulges and potholes, it must be leveled using special flooring or additional substrates.
- Don’t rush to install the parquet board you just bought; let it sit in the room first.
After you have leveled the linoleum, eliminated all existing shortcomings and shortcomings, and also eliminated possible fungi and infections, you can proceed directly to the process of laying the parquet boards.
ATTENTION: If the linoleum has been laid for a long time and can be called dilapidated, do not rush to remove it. It is enough to buy a substrate made, for example, from a material such as cork. By laying it, you will protect it from swelling, and it will serve as additional protection from moisture.
How to properly lay a parquet board on linoleum
First, let's define what a “parquet board” is.Essentially, this is a product made of wood, a material that is durable and environmentally friendly in all respects. To lay it on linoleum, you will need a special glue for gluing.
It is also worth knowing that parquet boards are an excellent choice for an apartment. You can lay it in any room, with the exception of the bathroom. It does not tolerate high humidity well. It is also distinguished by such characteristics as excellent quality and long service life.
But in order for it to please you for many years, you need to carry out the installation process correctly. This should be done by following the following recommendations:
- the purchased material must “rest” in a warm room for at least a day;
- sketch out a rough drawing of how it will be placed in the room;
- decide on the sizes to avoid mistakes;
- choose a laying method: you can lay it straight, or you can lay it diagonally;
- but it is better to stick to the direct installation method - this is the simplest process.
Having made preliminary calculations and chosen the installation method, we proceed directly to the work process.
- First, dilute the adhesive mass and prepare it, mixing thoroughly.
- We apply a fairly thick layer of glue to the linoleum, and also lubricate the surface of the boards.
- We lay the first board near one of the walls, at a distance of about four hundred millimeters we install special inserts made of plastic or wood. They will be useful in the future so that when the moisture content in the air is high, the parquet does not expand and swell.
- Using a spatula, apply another layer of glue.
- We begin to lay the boards according to the drawing made and taking into account the chosen installation method.
