Parquet board. What is this?
Among other floor coverings made of wood, this is the youngest material. Almost immediately it became very popular. This product has an elegant appearance, meets all safety requirements and at the same time costs significantly less than solid wood.
What is the board made of?
The modern version of parquet board consists of three layers:
- The basis. This is the lowest stabilizing layer. Most often it is made from softwood or veneer. It is necessary to ensure that the product does not bend during operation;
- Core. The middle layer is made of coniferous dies, which are laid across the product. It is in it that the locking connection is installed. It also provides additional strength;
- Decorative layer. This is the topmost layer of the product, made from valuable wood. Its thickness is at least 4 mm, and it is characterized by increased resistance to mechanical stress. To decorate the boards, the wood undergoes careful selection, as it should not have defects, knots, and the shade on all slats should be the same.
Most often, the following tree species are used for finishing parquet boards:
- Oak. The most common option. This is due to the fact that oak has maximum strength and can last for many years;
- Beech. Most often used when decorating children's rooms, as it has many different shades, but is not very durable;
- Cherry. A universal option suitable for any room. It has a wide palette of colors, from brown to faded pink;
- Wenge. Very beautiful and exotic wood, almost black in color. At the same time, it has excellent strength;
Main characteristics and properties
When choosing the most suitable floor covering, you must take into account its characteristics:
- Product weight. This indicator depends on the wood used, the density of which is different for each type of wood. The denser the material, the greater the weight of the finished floor covering. This is also affected by the number of layers of varnish;
Manufacturers that produce high-quality flooring indicate information about the weight of the product on the packaging.
- Strength. Parquet boards are divided into several wear resistance classes. This characteristic indicates how resistant the product is to external mechanical influences and for what operating conditions it is suitable. The indicator has a double-digit value. The first number indicates the scope of application, and the second indicates resistance to external influences;
- Coating. For finishing, varnish or oil can be used. It determines the life of the floor covering and affects its appearance;
Distinctive properties are:
- The material is completely natural;
- Provides good sound insulation;
- Does not require thorough and special cleaning;
- If the product is made with high quality, it will last for many years;
Dimensions and color of parquet boards
In order for the flooring to harmonize with the overall style of the room, you need to choose the right shade. Since different types of wood are used in the manufacture of boards, the color palette is quite wide, which makes it easy to choose the desired option:
- White and board of light shades. Suitable for small spaces, visually expanding them and filling them with light;
- All shades of brown are universal, so they are suitable for decorating any room;
- Ebony looks very exotic and unusual and will become a real interior decoration. But it is not suitable for small rooms;
The color of the product may change over time. This information must be clarified with the seller!
The progress of installation work depends on the dimensions of the parquet board:
- The length of the product ranges from 20 – 25 cm. The longer the product, the less chance that the floor will begin to creak in the future;
- Thickness. This is a very important characteristic. It determines the strength of the product, and it is this that affects the installation height of the door jamb. The thickness can range from 0.7 to 2.6 cm. Professionals consider the optimal value to be 1.4 cm;
- Width varies from 13 to 20 cm..
The range of parquet boards allows you to choose a product that meets all the necessary requirements. In order for the floor to last for many years, it is advisable to give preference to already proven manufacturers. Do not forget that the flooring must be suitable for a specific room.
