Laying strip parquet
If you have chosen piece parquet for yourself, selected the texture and color, now is the time to start preparatory work. Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to do the installation yourself.
If necessary, the base must be leveled. In order to understand whether this is necessary, walk along the surface with a metal strip - if the gap is more than two millimeters, then these places need to be leveled with a grinding machine or a mixture.
In most cases, uneven floors are the main reason why parquet floors squeak. Therefore, this issue should be approached with maximum responsibility. If there are cracks, they should be repaired.
If the screed was formed anew, it should be thoroughly dried. And therefore, you will have to take a break from work. A primer layer of epoxy resin can be applied as waterproofing. Then you need to prime it with a special compound.

Preparing the base for installing parquet flooring
Once the backing is installed, you need to make markings. To do this, we make marks that will serve as a guide for laying the lags. They should be placed every forty centimeters. The floor should also be marked at exactly the same distance.
We fasten the logs with anchor bolts to the base and walls. All places where fasteners will be made must be marked in advance; you just need to fix them. Maintain an even position vertically and horizontally. Check the level.
Once the beams are fixed, they should be covered with plywood. Plywood has a standard width of 80 or 100 centimeters. And our beams are located at a distance of forty centimeters, so they make it possible to join the plywood at the edges.
We fasten the plywood around the perimeter of the room, as well as along the center bars.
IMPORTANT! The plywood used for the base should be more than a centimeter thick. Then the floor will not sag under the weight of a person and will not vibrate much.
In order to prepare the old floor for laying parquet, you must do the following:
- Inspect all the boards and get rid of any broken or rotten ones.
- Loose and uneven - replace.
- All uneven surfaces should be smoothed with a plane and sanded.
Now the old floor is completely ready for laying new parquet on it.
How to lay piece and modular parquet:
Laying parquet is practically no different from laying laminate. Let's consider the sequence of actions, as well as installation methods and options.
Fastening with nails to a board base. This method is based on the use of a base made of wood or boards that are located under the parquet. This type of installation is used only if the room has a solid base, and also if it is not possible to pour a level screed. Alternatively, you can use plywood. This installation method ensures strength and durability. It can be used even in large rooms.
Fastening with special glue. If the future coating has high strength requirements, then it is better to use a special adhesive composition. Apply glue to the screed or wooden base. To apply the composition, you need to use a spatula with serrated edges, this allows you to achieve the most durable attachment of the parquet to the base. During the installation process, you must not forget about deformation joints, which will allow you to create ventilation and avoid deformation of the coating in the future. This method is also applicable for large rooms.
Fastening with bitumen mastic. This method is used when the parquet is placed on a cement screed. Since this method has side properties, it can be used only in extreme cases. The whole problem is that the mastic is quite fluid, and therefore the parquet can creep and lose its strength.
Fastening in a “floating” way. In this technology, parquet is laid using tongue and groove fastening; no additional fixation is made to the base. This technology allows for reliable fastening throughout the entire life of the parquet. This method allows the floor covering to combat temperature changes. Since no fixing compounds are used, this reduces the cost. If necessary, such fasteners make it possible to quickly and easily repair. In this way, you can lay parquet in small rooms and only using a deck layout.
Types of parquet installation
Options for parquet layout depend solely on the desire of the person and his artistic taste. The following types of layouts exist:
- The herringbone layout is a more attractive layout option.Since with this type of layout the pressure on the surface is distributed evenly, the possibility of cracks occurring, as well as height differences, is reduced to zero. There are different English and French types of Christmas trees. In the English type, styling is done in a zigzag, but the second option is more complex and elegant in texture, as it has an oblique cut. Christmas tree laying is carried out along the walls or diagonally, starting from the corner. If installation is carried out along the wall, then work should begin from the center. If you need to visually expand the room, then the installation should be made of two planks or more.
- Laying strip parquet in a staggered manner is also known as “Deck”. Using this method, you can achieve visual solidity of the coating. The strength of fixation increases, since the dies are fixed to the base on four sides. The direction of installation, in this case, depends on how the light is directed and where the movement is more intense. Can be mounted along the longest wall, as well as in a diagonal direction. Each plank is mounted with a shift of one half from the previous die.
- Installation of wicker parquet is highly popular among lovers of artistic flooring. As a result of such installation, a beautiful and original pattern of intertwined planks is obtained. Visual volume is achieved by using several different types of wood. As a rule, wickerwork involves four strips in each set element. In order to enhance this effect, the planks should be contrasting. Installation should begin from the wall or from the corner of the room, then repeat layer by layer, moving from external elements to internal elements. Laying can be done in a straight or diagonal direction.
- The square layout is no less attractive than wicker. Squares can be straight, unfolded and complex. Due to the combination of different types of wood used in the layout, an original design is obtained. As a basis for installation, blocks of rivets are used, which are placed at right angles, due to this the squares are smooth and beautiful. The layout is carried out along the wall, which is located opposite to the exit.
If you are not entirely sure which design option is most suitable for your room, then you should refer to various catalogs. A better solution would be to consult with specialists who will not only help you make a difficult choice, but can also take on all the work of laying the flooring.
