How and what is the best way to paint parquet
When choosing paint, it is worth considering those brands that are designed directly for the floor, taking into account the increased load that parquet endures. Regarding the shade, it is recommended to choose the option that is in maximum harmony with the interior. Although, to achieve a truly impressive result, you can choose a color scheme that is several tones darker when compared to the original version.
Important! If you want to paint the parquet in a different color, then keep in mind that when painting the floor in a light tone, in particular, cream, many flaws will become noticeable. Here it is important to decide which course of action will be the best: a radical change in the color scheme of the floor or refreshing the coating.
It is not advisable to hide the natural wood texture under paint. There are paints that preserve the natural structure and beauty of wood. It is necessary to take into account the type of wood on which the parquet is made. For pine material, a varnish designed for soft wood structures is suitable. But, due to the fact that oak parquet is considered the most common, most varnishes and coloring components are designed for it.
Next, let's delve into the types of paints that will be needed to paint parquet:
- Water-based acrylic models are used for plank layers. They delight the buyer with a reasonable price, an abundance of color options, resistance to temperature changes, safety of application and operation, absence of suffocating odors during operation, breathability and quick drying.
- Latex compositions based on rubber extract. This paint is endowed with identical positive aspects that are similar to the acrylic base. It is easy to care for a floor painted with a latex base - its maintenance occurs without much effort. It is worth noting that thanks to the finest level of application, it is possible to preserve the structure of the wood for a long time.
- Primer. Before applying the varnish layer, the floor is covered with a primer. It removes small chips and cracks, so that the varnish is applied in an even layer. Primer treatment protects the wood from bacteria and fungus. The primer should be selected based on the type of varnish used: for solvent-based or polyurethane varnish, a similar primer structure is suitable.Acrylic primer is suitable for water-based, dispersion varnish base. Please note that to avoid changing the color of the board, it is advisable to use a colorless product.
Types of materials needed for painting parquet
To paint parquet it is necessary to use auxiliary materials, such as:
- Bitumen and mineral additives that are added to the adhesive-based mastic.
- Cardboard for construction or paper for laying between a wooden base and parquet.
- Nails that will be needed to attach parquet panels to wood.
- Paint, potash and wax to polish the floor.
How to paint parquet correctly - instructions for beginners
In order to paint parquet with high quality, you need to choose a suitable roller or brush. For this type of work, use a paint roller with an elongated handle based on mohair or wool. It is undesirable to use products made of foam rubber, because they leave poorly painted areas due to slippage. It is allowed to paint the parquet with a brush. If the dye is liquid in structure, then you can use a special sprayer.
Below are all the stages of painting parquet:
- Make sure the floor is level and free of dirt. Make sure to ventilate the room in advance, as some paints may contain harmful components.
- Wear a respirator on your face and wear a special suit for protection. Distribute the paint base by moving the brush from a distant area of the room. Remember to follow the manufacturer's application instructions.
- Make sure that droplets of paint do not fall onto the surface that is not painted. If paint gets on untouched boards, wipe it off with a clean, damp cloth.
- When applying varnish, instead of paint, it is recommended to apply several layers of varnish. Each subsequent layer is applied in a perpendicular direction relative to the previous one.
- It is important to wait 3 days until the previous row is completely dry. This way you can avoid disturbing the already created layers of varnish and achieve a more saturated and deep shade.
