Is it possible to clean parquet floors with a steam mop?
Progress does not stand still and a steam version of the mop has come to replace ordinary buckets and “lazy ones”. Such devices are very easy to use and cope well even with heavy dirt and greasy stains. If there are small children and animals in the house, then the steam option is almost irreplaceable. Due to the fact that the device washes the floor using high-temperature steam, in addition to cleaning, it also disinfects the floor covering. This allows you to avoid using various chemicals.
There are several types of parquet. Only the waterproof version can be washed with a steam mop.
IMPORTANT! Maintenance with steam is allowed if the parquet is laid with glue, all joints are treated with sealant, and the surface is not waxed.
The operating principle of the mop itself is as follows:
- The device is equipped with a reservoir into which water and detergents are poured.
- Using a mechanism, liquids are heated to a certain temperature.
- The steam generated as a result of heating escapes through special holes in the mop head.
REFERENCE! There are models of steam devices equipped with a function for adjusting the steam temperature. These mops are ideal for caring for parquet or laminate flooring.
Rules for caring for parquet: what can be used
Parquet requires careful maintenance. It must be protected from possible mechanical damage.
INWARNING! If quite serious mechanical damage occurs on the parquet flooring, then the only correct way is to completely replace the damaged areas with new ones.
To avoid this type of wear and tear, you should put special devices or wheels made of soft rubber on the furniture legs. Felt also works great. If you have pets, you should trim their nails on time.
ATTENTION! Carpeting laid over parquet or laminate flooring does not prevent damage. Tiny particles of dust and debris accumulate between the carpet and the floor, which begin to work like sandpaper.
Parquet flooring also needs to be washed properly. This is done as follows:
- the mop should not have any metal or protruding parts;
- if cleaning is carried out using a vacuum cleaner, this must be done using special attachments with retractable pile;
- Do not wash with an excessively damp cloth - excess moisture can lead to swelling of the parquet flooring and its subsequent deformation;
- It is necessary to use special detergents - any products containing abrasive particles, as well as dishwashing liquid, are strictly prohibited;
- When using a steam mop, you need to make sure that the parquet is waterproof and the mop has a steam temperature control mode.
With proper care, parquet flooring will last for many years.
