How to polish parquet
There are several types of machines for sanding parquet. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, you need to familiarize yourself with them to make a choice.

Parquet sanding machines
Sanders are very convenient and efficient. But they have a drawback - high price. Most often, such machines are purchased by companies involved in parquet installation. Ordinary people rarely buy them. If you need to sand the surface of a parquet floor, it is best to rent this equipment. But to make the surface even, in addition to the machine, additional devices are needed:
- Varnish and putty.
- Sandpaper.
- Roller and brush.
- Rubber spatulas.
- Scissors (to cut off the sandpaper).
- A key to secure the abrasive to the device.
- Vacuum cleaner for removing chips and dust during the grinding process.
Drum type
Standard and widespread drum-type sanding devices will allow you to remove deep layers of old coating. The machine includes:
- Drum. Its width is approximately 20 cm.
- Water pump. This is where the chips that appear during the grinding process accumulate.
- Abrasive material. It is attached to the drum. Its purpose is to scrape the surface.
Tape
Suitable if you need to sand a large area, or for rough material. Thanks to the low center of gravity, the machine fits tightly to the surface. Thanks to this, sanding work becomes easier.
Corner
This type is used if it is necessary to treat hard-to-reach areas. Grinding is carried out with a grinding disc. It comes in several forms:
- Flat.
- Disc-shaped.
- Polishing.
- Cup.
Modern equipment is equipped with additional functions that make work easier. Among them:
- Speed adjustment.
- Maintaining the required number of revolutions.
- Soft launch.
- It protects against unscheduled shutdown (applies to turning off the lights, there is a risk of damage to the device).
Disk
This type is more suitable for final sanding of the coating. They allow you to treat parquet before tinting and varnishing. The sizes of the machines are different, and the choice of attachments is large. By changing attachments, we can grind in hard-to-reach places:
- Near the outlet.
- Under the batteries.
- Near the pipes.
Attention! These machines are a good replacement for corner devices.
Vibrating
These devices are of a surface grinding type. They are universal, and therefore allow not only grinding, but also primary processing of parquet. The principle of operation is reciprocating movements. The speed of work depends on the frequency of vibration of the sole (the higher, the faster). But excessive speed reduces quality, so low frequency is necessary for grinding.
Eccentric
The basic principle of operation is taken from vibration devices, but with the addition of a grinding wheel. Thanks to this, the performance of the device becomes higher. Movement and vibration allow for high-quality surface treatment.
The performance depends on the diameter of the vibration circle. As with the vibrating device, the higher the vibration, the faster the grinding, but the poorer the quality.
Reference! The operating speed is also taken into account (slow mode is better for parquet).
Which grinding machine is better?
It is impossible to say for sure which device is better. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. The quality of processing is best with an eccentric device, but they are more expensive than all analogues. The most affordable is the drum type; it is most often used to polish parquet, but the quality is lower than that of others. But it is pointless to compare them with corner ones, since the latter have a different purpose.
