The difference between household linoleum and commercial
Today, despite the wide range of different floor coverings, linoleum still remains one of the most popular materials. This is due to the low cost and fairly simple installation technology. This type of material is installed in residential apartments and houses, shops and even industrial premises. However, it is necessary to distinguish between the types of household and commercial linoleum, which have different areas of application.

Differences between household and commercial linoleum
Today on the market of construction and finishing materials you can find two types of materials:
- domestic;
- commercial.
The household variety is most often used only in residential premises or offices where there is little traffic during the day. For large rooms where a huge number of visitors pass daily, commercial types of canvas should be used.
This is due to the increased wear resistance and density of the material. Commercial is originally intended for rooms where the load on it will be maximum. Manufacturers create an improved, extremely durable fabric that can withstand heavy loads.
Important! Before purchasing linoleum, you should evaluate the future loads on the flooring and do not skimp on purchasing expensive commercial material if you plan to install it in a room with a lot of daily traffic.
Characteristics of household
As the name implies, household is used exclusively in everyday life. It has an attractive low price and a variety of colors and textures, but is not intended for heavy daily loads.
This type of coating has a number of advantages:
- economical (among different types of flooring this is the most budget option for finishing a living space);
- easy to maintain (after installation, it can be easily washed using conventional and affordable products);
- large selection (in finishing materials salons you can find a wide selection of palettes and textures of linoleum);
- easy to transport (due to its elasticity, it can be easily rolled up and transported from place to place);
- has good thermal insulation (with an additional underlay it perfectly insulates the floor);
- moisture resistance (easy to clean, does not allow moisture to pass through on both sides).
Thanks to its structure, it not only retains heat and does not allow moisture to pass through, but is also able to absorb sound vibrations. This makes moving around the room comfortable and convenient. The protective coating applied to the front side allows you to keep the coating in its original form for a long time if you carefully and carefully care for it daily.
Characteristics of commercial
Industrial linoleum can be laid in residential or commercial premises. As a rule, this type of coverage is chosen for rooms with high daily traffic. It has a number of undoubted advantages over other types of linoleum:
- increased wear resistance (initially intended for heavy loads on the floor covering, therefore it has increased strength);
- anti-slip function (usually covered with a special layer that ensures safety when walking);
- variety of patterns (thanks to a wide selection of patterns, you can easily zone even the largest rooms).
Important! Industrial linoleum can also be laid in living rooms, but this is irrational from a financial point of view. It is better to choose this option if a large number of people pass through the room every day.
At the same time, commercial linoleum is a rather expensive type of coating. It will last at least 25 years and will wear off slowly, without frightening visitors to the room with unflattering spots that have become thinner and have lost their ornamentation. The pattern is applied throughout the entire depth of the roll, so it will be erased gradually and unnoticed by others. This is the most cost-effective flooring option for medical institutions, school classrooms, offices and other commercial premises.
