Ways to remove a dent on linoleum
There are 2 main methods for removing dents on the surface:
- Conservative. These methods involve eliminating defects using improvised means.
- Radical. These methods involve partial or complete dismantling of the coating to replace or relocate the damaged area.
Conservative
Conservative methods will allow you to remove small defects using available means. The result will depend on the size of the damage. There are several ways:
- A weight or heavy roller. These items are used for rolling damaged areas. Helps get rid of small dents.
- Hairdryer and roller. Before starting work, the coating must be heated with a hairdryer. This way we will make it elastic, and this will allow us to even out the defect. But you need to be careful when heating so as not to melt the linoleum. Using this method can take a long time, sometimes you will have to warm up and level it multiple times due to frequent breaks to allow the coating to cool.
- Roller, ammonia and iron. This method is similar to the previous one, but you cannot place a heated iron on the linoleum. We need to take a small piece of cloth and soak it in ammonia. We spread it around the perimeter of the dent in several layers. Now we need to heat the iron. We put on a gauze bandage to protect the respiratory tract from steam. Place the iron on the fabric and press down well. Warm the surface for about a minute. Then we remove the fabric and iron. Roll the linoleum with a roller, pressing on it. We repeat this several times.
Attention! This is a very effective method because this method of heating will avoid melting. Sometimes, a dent can be smoothed out without using a roller. But remember that the dent will not disappear immediately. You may have to repeat the heating several dozen times.
Radical
Radical methods are suitable if conservative ones do not give the desired result. But this is not suitable for every case.
The most famous radical method is complete dismantling of the coating. Then it will need to be folded in the opposite direction. This method is only suitable for rooms of the correct shape. Otherwise, it will not be possible to correctly return the linoleum, and the appearance of the room will be worse than it was before dismantling.
This method can only be used if the linoleum was not secured with glue. If adhesive tape was used during installation, you will be able to dismantle the coating without any problems. But glued linoleum cannot be removed.
Reference! The essence of this method is not to eliminate the dent, but to change its position so that it is not too noticeable.
How to properly replace a damaged section of linoleum
Partial dismantling of the coating is suitable if a deep dent appears. To do this, you need a piece of linoleum of the same shape, color and size as before.
This is done as follows:
- Cut out the deformed part with a sharp knife.
- Using glue or tape, we place the same piece of linoleum in this place.
- Let's fix it.
- To remove the seams, the joint between the main part of the canvas and the added piece must be processed by cold welding.
Any housewife can remove such defects on the surface. The most important thing is to follow the instructions.
