Homogeneous linoleum - what is it?
One of the most popular types of flooring is linoleum. Its development history began quite a long time ago, and every year it acquires better characteristics. It is worth noting that this material has gone through a rather impressive development path from ordinary tarred fabric to a coating that is characterized by high levels of resistance. The average period of operation is within 10–15 years. We should also highlight homogeneous linoleum, which has excellent characteristics when used in high-traffic areas, for example, commercial facilities or educational institutions.

Let's understand the terminology
Homogeneous linoleum is a homogeneous material. The name was given due to the fact that the structure is uniform throughout the entire thickness. There are no layers here, as, for example, in heterogeneous ones. The print is uniform and this allows you to maintain the characteristics declared by the manufacturer throughout the entire period of operation.
It is precisely because of these characteristics that this product option is very often chosen for arranging floors in children's bedrooms, playrooms and other rooms with high traffic.
If we consider it from the point of view of operational parameters, it can be argued that this option is eternal. The drawing does not lose its brightness over a long period of time. If it happens that the thickness of the coating is reduced in some places, this can be corrected. For this, extension technology is used; it can be done even at home.
IMPORTANT. A distinctive feature is the complete absence of any connections or gaps between the canvases. For connection, the coating is soldered using special welding. This eliminates the possibility of dirt and debris getting between the joints. Lumps and folds will not form.
Main advantages
This type of flooring can be used equally successfully in both home and commercial settings. Among the advantages it is worth highlighting the following:
- High degree of wear resistance.
- High degree of fire safety.
- No unpleasant odor.
- Long service life.
- Withstands exposure to chemicals.
- Has an antistatic effect.
This material can withstand very high loads. It is not able to absorb moisture and does not deform. Caring for it is extremely simple.
Features of flooring
This type of linoleum consists of the following components:
- PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
- Plasticizers. They are necessary to give the material elasticity and springiness.
- Dolomite. The use of this component makes it possible to increase the fire resistance of the coating; it also has the destructive effect of unwanted insects in the house.
- Chalk, lime.
- Quartz sand. The coating acquires softer shades.
Each of the listed components is very important and the exclusion of one of them will radically change the characteristics of the product.
In order to give the flooring increased strength, the manufacturer applies polyurethane and polyacrylic as the top layer. This layer is the only one not integrated into the overall structure of the product, which is why it can be prone to abrasion. If during operation this layer has undergone severe wear and tear, it is quite possible to restore it. For this, specialists use special compounds. Otherwise, it is possible to continue using the floor covering without restoration; its characteristics will not deteriorate significantly.
The manufacturer produces natural linoleum of this type. In the production of which jute, linseed oil and resin, and wood flour are used. The composition contains natural components in a ratio of 99 to 1 with others.
REFERENCE. The peculiarity of this material is the possibility of restoration during active use. To do this, use a grinding machine.
Types of material
This type of material can be divided into certain subtypes. They are divided depending on the presence or absence of a base, as well as other parameters.
The unique composition allows you to impart really high strength indicators; the material will be very difficult to push through or tear. The presence of polyurethane allows for softness.
This is a reinforced material and its main difference is the price, it will be twice as high as the cost of conventional material. The wear resistance indicator is within the class 33–43. This is a commercial flooring.
This type of flooring can be used both in commercial premises, where high levels of resistance to active use are very important, as well as at home. Even when choosing homogeneous linoleum for your home, you can be sure that you are purchasing a truly reliable material that will serve you for many years and will not lose the characteristics stated by the manufacturer. This decision is rational.
