Service life of linoleum
Linoleum is one of the most common types of flooring, which has excellent characteristics in terms of moisture resistance, strength and elasticity. There are practically no restrictions on the choice of colors and patterns.
The shelf life of linoleum at home depends on many factors. Based on its composition, linoleum is divided into two types:
Natural. Its composition consists of suburban materials such as linseed oil, pine resins, wood flour. In this case, natural dyes are used, as well as limestone powder, and jute fabric is used as the base.
PVC. Mainly consists of synthetic polymer materials. Today this is the most common type.

Classification of linoleum
The durability of linoleum is achieved thanks to a multilayer structure, each layer performs its own function. First there is a protective layer; on some types there may be an additional protective layer. Then comes the wear layer, it is the thickness of this layer that determines the life of the floor covering and the integrity of the pattern layer. After this comes a layer of fiberglass and backing.
IMPORTANT! The class of flooring determines the thickness and quality of the linoleum layers. The classification is carried out according to the type of room and the frequency of its use. The types of premises include residential, service or office, and industrial.
Service life of linoleum
To ensure long-lasting use of the floor covering, it is important to make the right choice according to the class of intensity of use. Compliance with installation rules also plays a big role in preserving linoleum.
In cases where the temperature of the room where the linoleum was stored differs from the temperature of the room in which it will be laid, it is necessary to leave it for a couple of days to adapt to the temperature regime.
Due to the vapor-impermeable material, moisture can accumulate, which in turn can lead to the formation of mold or rotting of the material. Therefore, flooring must be laid on a prepared surface, following the process technology.
REFERENCE! Joints between two linoleum surfaces should be made using the cold or hot welding method.
Proper care of the floor covering will help increase the service life and maintain its appearance. Natural linoleums should be coated with a special protective agent after installation. The product will create an additional protective layer, which will reduce adhesion, increase wear resistance, which will lead to an increase in service life. PVC linoleums should be periodically coated with a polymer layer.
To maintain the original appearance and integrity of the floor covering, you must adhere to the following recommendations:
- Use attachments under furniture legs to distribute the load evenly;
- Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading;
- Do not drag objects along the floor;
- When cleaning, do not use bleaches, and do not use chemical solvents when removing stains.
- Before wet cleaning, pre-clean the surface, getting rid of dry debris.
Compliance with the above rules will help preserve the appearance for a long time and extend its service life to 15 years or more. In most cases, a baseless coating will last 7 years, and a base coat will last 10 years.
