How to make a fireplace from laminate yourself
To create your own, you need to purchase the following materials:
- a sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler and an eraser for drawing a small sketch. No special artistic skills are required. This drawing is primarily for myself;
- laminate as the main element of the future fireplace. You will need about 10 pieces depending on the size;
- special tape and glue;
- brush, paints if necessary and decorative elements for decoration.
Design features and measurements
You choose the type of design yourself, based on your preferences and tastes. You can place some small objects on a laminate fireplace without worrying about its durability.
You need to take measurements seriously. Firstly, the size is determined by the height of the laminate. If the source material is long, then it can always be shortened.
DIY laminate fireplace: step by step
The creation of a design begins with a drawing. Draw what you imagine your fireplace to look like.Does it have an arch? Be sure to indicate the dimensions so that there are no pitfalls. Also depict how you will assemble the structure in parts. Visualization in this case is a convenient way to build.
We assemble a frame from laminate (can be replaced with ordinary wooden beams) about 3-5 cm wide. To create the simplest design, we create a three-dimensional letter “P” from laminate beams.
Important! Laminate is a very fragile and soft material, so it should be handled very carefully so as not to damage it. It is better to purchase a large amount of laminate so that if an error occurs you do not have to urgently run to the store.
To attach individual parts, you must use special glue (suitable, for example, for wood). You can also use construction tape and corners. But it is worth remembering that with adhesive tape there is a possibility that the design will not look neat. Therefore, it is better to use glue for this matter.
To create the back wall, you can use chipboard, wooden square planks, part of a box, and so on. Everything is within the limits of your imagination. It is more convenient to use, of course, some kind of dense surface.
To create a hill, laminate left over from the main frame is usually used. But you can also use boxes that have been pre-painted, such as masonry.
Self-adhesive tape is used to cover the main part. Also, if you have artistic abilities, be sure to have a hand in the decor. You can paint the back wall with flames or draw a beautiful ornament to create more realism.
For decoration, you can use various decorating things that you can make either yourself or purchase in a store. These can be small flowers, New Year's balls, garlands, you can hang socks on the fireplace and wait for gifts from Santa Claus. To create more coziness, you can light candles and place them on the top panel.
Creating a fireplace with your own hands does not require any special skills. All you need to do is buy the necessary materials, imagine the future design and spend a little time on it.
Remember! Don't start creating right away. Before doing this, draw a drawing with all the small details, and most importantly, the dimensions. Measure the space allocated for the fireplace several times for greater accuracy.
By dedicating about two to three hours to a useful activity, your home will gain unprecedented comfort and warmth.
