What is tufting technology?

The basis for such a carpet is a dense mesh onto which the pile is glued. The stitching process occurs with the formation of loops. Once the work is completed, they are cut to create a looped carpet.

The result is an intricate combination of cut pile and loops. The original product is quite popular, but this is not the only application of tufting technology.

The disadvantages of this technology should also be taken into account. Many people believe that this is a way to get cheap-to-produce products that only superficially resemble oriental rugs that are exclusively handmade.

It is known that tufted options do not have the same strength, durability and wear resistance as their handmade counterparts. Especially when you consider that cheaper varieties of wool of relatively low quality are chosen for the technology.

What types of tufted carpets are there?

1. Machine-made carpets. American engineer Cobble is the author of the idea of ​​tufting. And he implemented it in the form of equipment that strengthens the twisted yarn directly on the warp. In some ways, this machine resembles a sewing machine.Containing a large number of hooks and needles, the machine worked at high speed, creating quite good products. The mechanization of the process dealt a strong blow to hand weaving. Nevertheless, the products turned out to be of high quality and were produced in mass quantities. Not least important was the relatively low price.
2. Handmade carpets. The technology in manual application is extremely interesting, as it provides the master with almost unlimited possibilities in choosing the shape, volume and other parameters. It is even possible to make inserts from other materials. Leather, metal, wood and other decorations only add originality to the product. Masters create original things that can, relatively speaking, be programmed for a specific interior without limiting your imagination, since there is an excellent tool for its implementation.
