Viscose is a processed wood pulp, it is made artificially, but from a natural material. Floor coverings made from it have excellent strength properties, regardless of the height of the pile.

Features of viscose
Despite the fact that viscose is actually based on paper, in terms of its quality characteristics, appearance and feel it is no worse than silk products. Such carpets are produced either by machine or by hand; of course, in the second case the price will be much higher, however, this will ensure their exclusivity and uniqueness.
REFERENCE. Chinese, Indian, Belgian and Turkish carpets are considered to be the highest quality on the carpet market.
In addition to pure viscose carpets, there are many combinations with other materials to impart certain properties. The most common of them include:
- the combination of silk and viscose allows you to significantly reduce the cost of the product without significant losses in quality;
- wool - it gives the product increased density and heat capacity, and viscose additives can significantly improve its appearance;
- cotton - strengthens viscose carpets.
Advantages of viscose carpets
Such coatings are common everywhere, in residential buildings and offices.Their pile has a characteristic shine that shimmers beautifully in the sun, while it is reliably protected from ultraviolet exposure, so it does not fade and retains its bright colors for many years.
Viscose is often called “artificial silk,” despite the fact that only the process of its production can be called artificial, but the material itself is one hundred percent environmentally friendly and safe. It is compared to silk due to its visual and tactile similarity (especially high-quality options sometimes cannot be distinguished from silk even by experts), while its cost is several times lower. At the moment, such products are among the most affordable for consumers.
The viscose pile absorbs and sets paint perfectly, so the range of colors is unusually rich and among them you can find an option that fits perfectly into any interior style, from classic to modern.
Such carpets are hypoallergenic, wear-resistant, do not accumulate static electricity and are lightweight, easy to transport and place on any surface.
Disadvantages of viscose carpets
Like any product, such coatings have their negative features. These include:
- instability to moisture, therefore, if water gets on them, you must immediately blot it with a paper or rag towel;
- The previous property is related to the fact that it is extremely undesirable to lay such carpets in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet, since the risks of quickly rendering the products unusable significantly increase;
- Maintenance requires special products designed for this material, or expensive dry cleaning. As a rule, simply vacuuming is not enough;
- fire hazard, which is associated with the requirement not to lay coverings near fireplaces, heaters or other heating devices;
- difficulty in removing stains and the resulting impracticality when placed in homes with pets and small children;
- slippery base, requiring additional fastening to the floor, for example, special pads;
- the risk of yellow spots appearing on light-colored surfaces as a result of high humidity, which also requires exclusively dry cleaning;
- lack of elasticity of the pile, due to which mechanical stress damages it.
What to look for when choosing
Before you make a purchase, please read the following tips:
- We recommend that you first study the product market, the reputation of manufacturers and reviews of their products;
- pay attention to the texture of the carpets, it should be dense, shimmering in the light and pleasant to the touch; polypropylene coverings, which do not have such properties, can sometimes be passed off as viscose;
- Poorly dyed carpets are often found. To check this, run a piece of white cloth over them. High-quality paint will not leave marks on it;
- Don’t forget about how the product will look in your interior. Don’t rush to buy the first one you come across for the design you like, imagine how it will fit with the overall color scheme of the room and its design;
- Pay attention to the size, especially if you plan to cover a large area of the room. If necessary, take preliminary measurements;
- Also note the length of the pile, since the difficulty of care depends on this: the longer, the higher it is.In addition, over time, long pile can wrinkle and settle, so if you do not have the opportunity to provide constant care for the coating, choose short-pile models.
IMPORTANT! Be sure to check with the seller for product quality certificates.
