How to freshen a carpet at home
Cleaning your carpet yourself will help you save money and will ensure that the work is done efficiently and conscientiously. Alas, any household service is always a lottery. You have no guarantee that your favorite rug won't come back faded or with a few new stains. Or that they won’t charge you a large fee supposedly for super-chemicals, but in fact they will clean the carpet with a cheap product.

Ways to refresh carpet at home
There are many ways you can freshen up your home's carpeting. However, you need to adhere to certain rules and recommendations, as you can damage the product.
Long pile
This carpet will be the hardest to clean. Small debris easily gets stuck between the long, hard fibers and dust accumulates. This leads to the fact that a seemingly decent carpet turns into a breeding ground for germs.
Reference! Avoid using a stiff brush. It is better to buy a special foam carpet cleaner, apply and remove, following the manufacturer's recommendations exactly.
Short pile
Not only a special chemical agent, but also cheap improvised materials will help remove stains and eliminate the unpleasant smell of stale synthetics: soda, lemon juice, ammonia, starch, snow. But even these “harmless” helpers must be handled with care.
Made from natural materials
Wool and silk products are fashionable and, unfortunately, expensive. Cleaning their upper layers with anything can lead to a deterioration in the appearance of the product. Always follow the seller's recommendations. For example, a silk rug may not withstand wet cleaning; it can only be treated with a gentle dry agent. Wool and sheepskin coverings can be cleaned well with a weak soda solution.
Attention! There is an important aspect in caring for wool products: make sure that pests do not grow in the thickness of the carpet, that is, fungi, mites and fleas.
What to apply depending on the color of the carpet
Clean, dry snow remains a popular natural remedy. It will not cope with an old, ingrained stain, but it will refresh the rug and remove dust. Another cheap remedy that can be found in any kitchen is regular baking soda or starch. You can either sprinkle the carpet dry with these white powders or wipe the stains with a weak soda solution. But this method is not suitable for dark flooring. It is better to use ammonia to clean it.
Soda will suit a light-colored carpet. But you cannot treat it with acid, that is, lemon juice and vinegar solution: you may end up with sloppy yellowish spots.
