Frieze carpet material: what is it
When a floor covering is selected, in most cases attention is paid to: color, pattern or texture, and the material from which the product is made.
But the development of modern technologies so quickly produces so many types of materials with such unusual names that most ordinary people are completely unaware of what such floor coverings are made of. This is, for example, the situation with frieze material.

Features of the material for the Frieze carpet
Frieze - the basis for this material is synthetic fiber polypropylene. Polypropylene itself has a number of qualities, positive and negative.
The positive ones include:
- Affordable price range - the fiber itself is quite cheap.
- It is not subject to the formation of static electricity, which provides such an interesting property as repelling dust from the carpet pile. Due to this, dirt does not “eat” into the surface of the carpet.
- It is not hygroscopic, that is, it is not wetted by water. This makes it much easier to care for such a surface, since wet dirt, which is based on water, is simply not absorbed by the pile.
- The paint used to dye the polypropylene thread forms such a stable compound with the fiber that it is not subject to fading in the sun. Due to this, carpet made from such material retains its appearance for a very long time.
- Not allergic.
- Not susceptible to insect attacks.
- It does not grow fungus and mold.
- It is convenient to clean such a product.
Despite the many positive qualities, frieze carpet still has some disadvantages:
- After all, it is a synthetic material.
- Despite its similarity to wool, it will not make a good tandem with an eco-style interior.
Due to the specific heat treatment and twisting of the fiber from several shades, a texture is obtained that closely resembles wool. The fiber is very soft, but at the same time elastic. It is somewhat curly.
Frieze carpet pile length
If we talk about the length of the pile, then the polypropylene fiber itself can be very short: from 2–3 mm, or up to several centimeters long. If we talk specifically about the frieze, then due to the fact that it has fairly good softness and waviness, high-pile carpets are made from it, ranging from 2 cm and higher. Frieze carpets are well suited for children's rooms, living rooms and bedrooms.
