What is the difference between carpet and rug
Choosing the type of flooring is one of the most important decisions for those who want to focus on comfort. After all, it can be functional, without distracting attention from the rest of the decor in the house, or, on the contrary, become that bright accent around which the rest of the design is built. That is why you should know about the basic and key differences between carpet and carpet.

Carpet
This type of flooring has a long and rich history. All carpets are valued for their high aesthetic qualities, which is a consequence of their original purpose - decoration. Their performance characteristics largely depend on what variety a particular fabric belongs to. The following options are available:
- palace - lint-free, with a low level of thermal insulation and sound absorption, double-sided;
- classic pile - often double-sided, in most cases made by hand from natural materials;
- industrial - mostly one-sided, wear-resistant, well insulates sound and heat, can be made using natural materials, but synthetics are more often used.
A characteristic feature of all carpets is limited sizes and a clear pattern, which also indicates the boundaries of the fabric. Handmade work is characterized by high aesthetic properties, authenticity and originality. Industrial ones are slightly inferior in this regard, but their cost is several times lower.
If we are talking about durability and wear resistance, then almost any carpet (except for the cheapest ones), with proper care, can last from 30-40 to 90 years. The duration of operation largely depends on the loads experienced, timely cleaning and ventilation.
Carpet
The primary task of this coating is to provide the proper level of thermal insulation and sound absorption. A characteristic feature of carpet is its large size: the width can reach 5 meters, the length is unlimited. Taking into account the above, it is quite logical that there is no accented pattern, which more often consists of repeating, chaotically placed figures. This property reduces the aesthetic qualities of the carpet, but is an undeniable advantage for those who decide to cover the entire area of the room with soft fabric.
The wear resistance of this coating is determined by the speed at which the pile is knocked down and becomes heavily soiled during intense traffic. A high-quality carpet can last from 5 to 20 years, a cheap one - no more than 2-3. These two groups can be distinguished by the density of the pile: the more bristles per cm2, the less and slower the carpet will be “trampled.” As for resistance to dirt, the most popular now are fabrics made of synthetic fibers with increased resistance to dirt. Natural materials are practically not used due to the economic inexpediency of using wool and the rapid contamination of other options.
The difference from the user's point of view
The carpet occupies a limited area and requires a “finish” floor underneath. It costs more than its analogues. But it can be removed at any time, cleaned and dried if necessary.This canvas is also more beautiful and allows you to place accents of comfort in the interior.
Carpet is distinguished by the fact that it can be laid directly on a concrete screed, covering the entire area of the room. It costs less, is easier to clean and serves as a neutral background in the room. But its size becomes a serious obstacle when it is necessary to ventilate or dry the coating, which makes it more difficult to care for and reduces its overall service life.
It is theoretically possible to use carpet as a carpet, but it is worth noting that without fastening, the fabric will soon begin to deform, curl, and the edges will fray.
