Laying carpet on a concrete floor
Carpet creates a warm environment and a cozy atmosphere in the room, and also absorbs noise and retains heat. But to ensure that its functionality is not impaired for a long period, you should adhere to the specifications when installing it. It would be ideal, of course, to use a special substrate. If it is necessary to cut the carpet before laying it, this should be done starting from the central part to avoid distortions. It is optimal to place the resulting joints perpendicular to the window so that they are less noticeable. In place of the threshold, special thresholds should be installed. And after installation, it is better not to walk on it for 1-2 days.

Preparatory work
First of all, you need to carefully measure the area of the room where the carpet will be laid out. In this way, you can determine the required quantity for purchase, so that there is no unpleasant surprise if some 5-10 cm is not enough. It is advisable to purchase it in one piece.
Note! If the floor has an irregular shape, then carpet should be purchased according to the maximum width and length of the floor. And it’s better to do this with some reserve.
High-quality installation is only possible with careful preparation of the base. The floor surface must be dry, clean and fairly level. It is necessary to treat with chlorine to prevent the formation of fungus.Compared to laminate, carpet does not need a very flat surface.
If there are small depressions in the concrete, they should be removed using putty.
Important! The bumps protruding above the surface must be trimmed off, and then the concrete surface should be treated with a deep-penetrating primer. This is done to prevent the formation of dust, because it can break through the base of the carpet.
If there are significant unevennesses, then a self-leveling floor or some other self-leveling mixture is used.
What to glue carpet on
Lay the carpet on the concrete floor at a room temperature of at least +15 degrees. The coating should be laid out in the room a day before installation work to allow it to level and acclimatize.
To work you will need the following tools:
- a construction knife or an ordinary, well-sharpened knife;
- dense roller;
- screwdrivers for mounting skirting boards;
- spatula for glue work.
To glue the coating to a concrete base, you need to purchase the appropriate adhesive. Typically polyurethane glue is used. Reaction and universal glue are also suitable for this purpose.
Laying carpet on concrete floors: step by step
You can begin laying the coating only after the surface has been thoroughly prepared. In small rooms, installation is not difficult and does not require much effort. It is attached only using baseboards located along the edge of the room.
First attached to one side, and then stretched and attached to the opposite side. Then the same is done with the other ends. Additionally, you can fasten it with double tape.On the floor, this tape is laid in strips at a distance of 0.5 m in the form of cells.
The base of the covering constructed in this way is first completely spread out, and then one of the ends is folded back. After this, the protective film on the tape is removed, and the carpet is glued to it, and then this is done with the other part. After this, apply the roller with gentle movements over the entire surface.
For more reliable fastening, glue is used. This installation is reminiscent of the process using tape. The carpet is laid in such a way that it extends onto the walls by about 5-6 cm. The excess part is cut off during installation of the baseboards.
In some cases, the scratching method is practiced. This method allows you to fasten the carpet to the base with wooden slats. They are placed at an angle of 45 degrees and nails are driven in. Since carpet has elasticity, this method makes it possible to obtain an evenly stretched surface. But using this method requires skills in work, so it is better to entrust this to professionals.
