Caring for plastic windows: 6 things that no one does, but in vain
Let's be honest with each other and admit that we don't wash our windows as often as necessary, or as we ourselves would like. Usually this event is always postponed “for later” - until better times (when you won’t be so lazy!). But whatever one may say, clean windows always bring us joy and some kind of self-respect - like, I can do it!
Yes, washing windows is a difficult task both morally and physically. Sometimes, after washing several glasses, you seem to be tired and have absolutely no strength for the rest. However, no matter how strange it may be, many of us even do this incorrectly. It turns out that in order for plastic windows to last as long as possible, they must be cleaned according to the rules, since all parts of the structure require different care.

Glass
They not only can, but must be washed regularly and in a timely manner. There is also a special approach to them:
- Choosing a detergent. There is no need to grab the first thing that comes to hand in the store. The composition should be carefully studied. No abrasive particles, as they can easily scratch the delicate surface. Yes, you will wash off the dirt, but they haven’t yet come up with ways to deal with scratches. By the way, these same damages very quickly become clogged with dust, so you will soon realize that you will have to wash the windows even more often.
- If the glass unit is coated with a special composition (for example, protection from UV rays), then the window cleaning agent should be selected taking this feature into account.In some cases, the use of formulations with alcohol, ammonia or other aggressive ingredients is prohibited.
Profile
It also requires regular care. Often it has to be washed to remove dust and dirt. The rules are quite strict, but easy to follow:
- no hard brushes;
- taboo on aggressive chemicals;
- Ideally, special products for plastic;
- Avoid contact with chlorine, acetone, acids.
If you ignore these conditions, then very soon your plastic will significantly spoil the appearance and function of the windows.
Drainage holes
There are special drainage holes at the bottom, which we, of course, almost never pay attention to. They are designed to remove condensation outside so that the windows do not fog up. Agree, the function is useful. But for all this to work, the holes also need to be cleaned. And this needs to be done at least twice a year.
Prepare a solution using regular soap and water and use it to wash off all the dirt that has accumulated underneath. Before doing this, you can vacuum to remove as much debris as possible.
Seals
Designed to seal the glass unit. To prevent these parts from wearing out and to last longer, they should be lubricated annually with compounds. For example, buy a special product or find a cheaper alternative - petroleum jelly, glycerin, silicone.
Pressing rubber bands on the sashes
Another element that is responsible for the tightness of windows. Located on the doors. They should also be treated with a special product for rubber products or with the cheap analogues mentioned above.
By the way, annual lubrication, especially before winter frosts, will not only preserve the durability of the pressure rubber bands, but will also help avoid drafts.If you occasionally hear a whistle from the windows, this is precisely a defect in the rubber bands.
Accessories
It requires no less of your attention than other components of plastic windows. Moving mechanisms need to be lubricated with machine oil 2-3 times a year, which will help keep them in working condition and also protect them from rust and premature wear.
These are the simple truisms that will help our windows and extend their service life. If you do not ignore these rules, they will serve you for decades. Moreover, all this does not need to be done daily or even monthly. It is enough to devote time to these events at least once a year.
