How many times a year and when exactly should you wash your windows at home?
Many of us are concerned about the question: “How often should you wash your windows and when is the best time to do it?” However, there is no specific answer to this question, since everything depends on the condition of the glass, the requirements that you place on the window profile, and, in fact, your mood.
However, there are unspoken rules that will tell you what time of year is best to clean your windows in your home, as well as what to do to keep them clean for as long as possible.

How often to clean windows
So, our grandmothers and mothers attached great importance to the cleanliness of glass. And quite rightly so, because windows are like the eyes of a house. Their condition was often used to judge a woman’s thriftiness and evaluate her as a homemaker.
Today, perhaps, we monitor the lives of other people less and less - who cares how often the housewife washes the windows? This, let’s say, is everyone’s personal matter. Nevertheless, clean window profiles are not only a guarantee of cleanliness and comfort - the health of the household also depends on it. After all, it is known that dust on glass contains so many “interesting” things - microbes, bacteria, small insects, and all of them can bring into our lives not only discomfort, but also various diseases.
It is for this reason that windows need to be washed in a timely manner, and this must be done correctly.
Washing twice a year is considered optimal. And, as a rule, this is a seasonal glass treatment - in the fall before the onset of cold weather and in the spring with the arrival of warmth. Why is this so? Isn't it possible to wash windows in winter? It turns out that you can’t, especially if you have metal-plastic profiles installed.
What's the matter? But the fact is that if it comes into contact with water in frosty conditions, the headset and supporting mechanisms may well freeze up. Well, you won’t dry out the moisture immediately with a hairdryer or heater. And frozen mechanisms will lead to nothing other than breaking the locks and the entire window structure in general. And who wants to be left with the window wide open on a cold January? Probably no one. That is why it is customary to wash windows only in warm weather.
Also, the reasons why you can’t wash them in winter include the huge likelihood of catching a cold. Even if you dress warmly, it cannot be ruled out that you will still be standing in a draft, and after washing you may well get a mild ARVI or serious pneumonia. So leave this event for a more favorable time.
So, to summarize: general window cleaning should be carried out twice a year - in the fall (ideally October) and in the spring (April, May). By the way, it is worth mentioning that these periods were also chosen for a reason. In October, dust does not fly as intensely as in summer, and therefore less will settle on the glass. And in May you simply get rid of the consequences of a long winter - you wash away the entire layer of dirt and dust that has accumulated.
Practical advice
- In the winter season, you can easily wash the glass from the inside. This way you will not only maintain cleanliness, but also minimize the amount of dirt.
- During seasonal washing, do not forget to clean the internal grooves of the profile - a sufficient amount of dirt and dust accumulates there.
- Use only high-quality cleaning products for cleaning. Cheap detergents not only do a poor job of cleaning dirt, but also leave streaks.
- If you really can’t bear to wash your windows in winter, then it’s better to limit yourself to glass and window sills only. It is not recommended to wash the internal grooves containing metal parts and rubberized tape with water.
