Why do plastic windows get dirty faster than wooden ones?

Clean windows are the pride of the housewife. This is understandable. Few people want to look outside with bleary eyes. Therefore, washing windows becomes an important part of cleaning, which makes the apartment truly cozy. Have you noticed that popular plastic windows require washing more often than wooden ones?

Why do plastic windows get dirty faster than wooden ones?

Why do different windows get dirty at different times?

Many housewives notice: windows in wooden and plastic frames get dirty over different periods of time. More precisely, it is not so much the frame that requires effort, but the main part:

  • glass - in windows with wooden frames;
  • double glazing - with plastic frames.

And if previously it was enough to wash ordinary glass twice a year: in spring and autumn, then a plastic double-glazed window can be cleaned at least every month!

This is due to the fact that wood and plastic have different electrostatic forces. Therefore, they attract dust particles differently.

Important! Plastic has a stronger attraction, and accordingly, dirt settles faster.

Factors influencing pollution

causes of pollution

The main cause of pollution is weather. Precipitation They quickly stain the outside of the glass; stains from them are easy to notice. Dust settles on both the outer and inner sides. This is especially noticeable in apartments located on the ground floors or close to the road. In addition, condensation accumulates in the kitchen due to temperature changes. It leaves noticeable streaks.

Advice. In winter, it is usually not possible to wipe the outside of the glass. But the inside surface should be cleaned.

If you find that your windows are getting dirty faster, pay attention to a few things:

  • Check the ventilation system. If the inner surface gets dirty faster than the outer surface, it is likely that the filter needs to be replaced. In a good way, it needs to be changed every two to three months.
  • Don't smoke near windows. They are covered with a nicotine film, to which particles of dust and dirt stick with greater force. It is impossible to remove such a film during normal washing.

Important! To remove nicotine film, add 250 ml of ammonia to 10 liters of water and wash the windows with this solution.

How to wash plastic windows so they stay clean longer

how to wash

It is recommended to carry out the first cleaning a few days after installation. Then this is done as it gets dirty.

  • Do not use hard sponges, powders or solvents to avoid damaging the surface. Otherwise you will have to clean it more often.
  • It is best to take special window cleaning products. Choose those that contain antistatic agents.
  • A brush with a soft rubber edge and special wipes are suitable for washing. Soak a cloth in warm water and gently wipe the frame, window sill and glass. Apply glass cleaner to the glass and rub. Rinse the surface several times with clean water and wipe dry. Polish the glass with a lint cloth.
  • To remove stubborn stains, dissolve 1 tbsp. l. potato starch in 1 liter of water. Wipe the glass with a large amount of the mixture and rinse several times.

Important! To ensure that the glass unit attracts less dust, you need to apply a special protective composition (1 part water, 1 part glycerin, 2-3 drops of ammonia) to a dry, clean surface.

The window sill can be protected with floor wax, which must be applied in a thin transparent layer. Blinds will also help the windows stay clean longer.
