Do you need a sink in the bathroom?

In small apartments, you may think about the need for a sink in the bathroom. This applies to old buildings and newfangled studios. Maybe such an accessory has become a relic and it’s time to get rid of it, freeing up space for a washing machine and closet, or should I leave it and continue to use it? I will try to answer this interesting question today.

Do you need a sink in the bathroom?

Bathroom sink - where did that come from?

The washbasin is intended for small hygienic actions: washing hands, washing a rag, washing and brushing teeth. You don't have to bend over it, which is why many of us continue to use it. Even the smallest sink creates certain conveniences that are difficult to refuse.

Let me start with the fact that it was not invented without reason. The bathtub and shower stall can be used whenever you just need to wash your hands or rinse a rag, but then you also need to clean this entire huge structure! What is easier to clean off shaving foam, toothpaste residue and small hair? Of course, a compact sink! Cleaning will take about ten minutes, while we wash the bathtub much longer, spending much more effort, even taking into account all the achievements of modern chemistry.

Life hack for thrifty housewives: to keep your plumbing fixtures fresh and pristine, just clean them regularly with toothpaste. Surprised? It contains active substances that can give whiteness not only to the yellow teeth of smokers!

So, I immediately conclude that they came up with the sink for a reason - which means there’s no point in cutting headlong and banishing it from the apartment.

Now I will prove that, apart from freeing up space, we will not achieve any other benefits:

  1. Regular washing will turn into a test for your back, as you will have to stand in a bent position.
  2. The lack of a washbasin will have a particularly negative impact on men. It is convenient to shave while standing straight in front of the mirror, and not in a strange position, bending sideways. And every time you will have to clean the bathtub!
  3. Designers note the effect of emptiness. On the one hand, yes, we have freed up space, but on the other hand, an unusual void appears on the wall, which is filled with cabinets.

But which is better? Another locker or your own comfort?

Alternative

It is absolutely not necessary to take out the sink to find a place for a washing machine or cabinet. Start by designing the entire room and replacing the plumbing, perhaps it's a matter of size and location.

If you have any difficulties, it is better to consult an experienced designer. A specialist will assess the situation and tell you how to make the right change.

Some tips for optimizing space:

  1. Replace the sink on a stand with a cabinet with shelves for storing necessary things.
  2. As an option, huge bathtubs are replaced with compact showers. The modern choice allows you to find an interesting option that suits even the most unusual personal wishes.
  3. Shelves on the walls and wall cabinets make life easier; it is not necessary to keep all pieces of furniture on the floor.

There is an interesting opinion that a bidet will be a worthy replacement for a washbasin. It is small in size, easy to clean, and the water jet can be used in different ways.

What happens? If we refuse, then we get free space, but we begin to actively use the bathroom, which will have to be cleaned every day, otherwise it will quickly turn into a breeding ground for dirt. The cleaning process will begin to take longer. It’s much easier to wash shoes, wash rags, shave and wash your face at the sink! You don't have to bend over and it's much easier to clean.
